I think that we have William Callison in 1786 selling land in Greenbrier and
on the tax list for 1787 and now I find him in 1787 still in Greenbrier so
only missing him from 1787 to 1806 <smile>
Actually working on a THEORY about Elizabeth Cutlip and found this on a
Cutlip website.
COURT OF THURSDAY, 28 AUGUST 1788: . . . George CUTLIP plff vs
Alexander
STEPHENSON Deft., on an attachment. The Plff. having obtained an attachment
against the estate of the deft. for debt, and the sheriff making return that he
attached in the hands of William CALLISON 2 pounds 16 shillings, and said
CALLISON the garnishee appearing confessed he has of the defts. estate in his
hands 2 pounds and 15 shillings, and the said deft. not appearing though
solemnly called, court orders the plff. recover against the deft. 7 pounds and 10
shillings with interest from 1 August 1784, plus costs, until paid. Ordered
William CALLISON the garnishee pay unto the plff. 2 pounds 15 shillings which
is in his hands towards satisfying this judgement" p. 67.
Now to my theory -- remember just a theory but I want to consolidate my
thoughts so putting them into print<smile>
As you know many researchers think that Nancy Callison who married Shadrack
Newenham in 1806 Gallia Co OH is the illigitimate daughter of Elizabeth Cutlip
Callison who married John.
However, I think it more likely that Nancy Callison who married Joseph Boiler
in 1804 Greenbrier Co VA would be that daughter and that William Sr was still
in Greenbrier in 1791 when John married Cutlip, in 1804 when Nancy married
Boiler and also in 1804 when William married Chapman.
Joseph Boiler was witness to the will of George Cutlip, father of Elizabeth
in Ross/Pike Co., OH 1812
As regards Nancy Callison Newenham as daughter of William versus John, we
know that William was in Gallia in 1806 when she married and her descendants were
on the same wagon train with descendants of Joseph, known son of William.
The Cutlips were also in Gallia in 1806 but I think this has more connection
with John and Elizabeth Cutlip Callison (more on this in another email)
Eliz. Cutlip's illigitimate child was born in November 1786 time period. The
only age we have for Nancy C. Newenham is 1850 census of 1789 and history on
Noah Boiler, son of Nancy C. Boiler says his mother was born 1787. Not a big
difference.
May be entirely off base but the Boiler/Cultip connection seems stronger than
the Newenham/Cutlip Connection.
Just for the record -- the Newenham sons were
William, John , Joel, Absalom, James, Charles, and Lorenzo D.
They moved from Ross/Pike Co. OH about 1835 to Schuyler Co., IL (later to be
Brown Co)
I'll save my NEW THEORY on Callison/Cutlip for another email.
TAke care.
PS I'm trying to find out the names of Joseph and Nancy Callison Boiler
children.
