I decided to get out my Callison info and look at it for a change without trying to do
everything by memory.
According to the 1860 census, not the 1870, John G. Callison was born in Ky ca 1797. For
some reason I had never noticed that he was born in Ky. Living with him is Sarah Dickey,
29, born Arkansas, M.A. Callison, 7, female, born Texas, and Wm. Dickey, born Texas.
George W. Callison and Sarah Ann Hackett were married July, 1851, in Villamont Twp., Ark.
No county is listed in the info that I have. I was thinking he died 1863, but it must have
been 1853-54 if the little girl is 7 and she had a son by a second husband two years
later.
About the marriage of a Sarah Callison in Tyler Co, Texas, that is where John G. Callison
got his land in 1853 after James Henry Callison died at Refugio. That could have been his
mother, Sarah, or perhaps he had married and had a daughter.
I looked up the info that I have on Alex Callison. According to the newspaper article that
I have about his death, it doesn't give a date but he was an old man from the picture,
he was born in Fayette Co., Texas in 1846. He moved to Colorado County in 1880 and then to
Eagle Lake in 1882. He was killed when a freight wagon ran over him. He was a very
prominent man in the community, according to the article, owning five freight wagons. He
had children J.M. Callison, N.W. Callison, Ben Callison, and Mrs. Charles Kanea. His wife
was Virginia.
According to the 1880 census of Texas, his father was born in Mo. and his mother was born
in Va. He fought in the Civil War with Terrys Texas Rangers, and so did John G. Callison,
Samuel's son. I wonder if that was just a coincidence.
I looked at some of the men that I have listed in Mo. Thelma Piper wrote to me in 1987
that there was a John Gillespie Callison who died in Lafayette Co., Mo. She had a copy of
his will dated 1859. He had a son David Nelson, who also had a son John Gillespie
Callison, but he was still in Mo. in 1850. The first John was the son of Hiram Callison.
To make matters more interesting Samuel Callison also had a son named Hiram Callison who
died as a young child and is buried in the Sandies Creek Cemetery where Samuel is buried.
Some of Louisa Callison Treadwell's children are buried there also.
I will see if I can find the letters from Joanne Easterline to tell you about the other
George W.
Well, I am sure this is very clear and you will immediately be able to tell me who
Samuel's father was. Yesterday I was thrilled that Mary found the ship's list, but
tonight I am not so sure!

Ok, so we have an unknown George Callison born about 1829 in Alabama and John
Gillespie Callison was married in 1826 Alabama. Later we find wife and child
of George living in the household of John G. Callison. Also John had a male in
the household under age 5 in the 1830 census soooooo is this George, the son
of John and Margaret Reneau Callison. This is probably way off base since I
know next to nothing on this family but just a thought. Take care. Marilyn
