Joyce, sent the following about James Callison
Marilyn,
I decided to go to the Fayette County Website. Duh! Should have looked there
first.
Page 220A, 1850, Fayette Co., Texas
James Callerson, 45, male, farmer, born Ky
Alexander 8, male, born Texas
Sinika? 6, female, born Texas

James Calleson, 55, farmer, male, born Ky
Ann, 55
Alexander, 18, male
S.A., 16, female
This is the James that was with Samuel, obviously. Alex Callsion says his
father was born in Mo. but he was obviously mistaken as it says Ky. both times on
the census when he was alive. He was not on the 1870 census so he had
probably died or had moved by then. Samuel died in the 1870s.
Well, I guess I was mistaken and Samuel was not the son James Callison and
Anne Gillespie. They must have been cousins to Robert, James, and John. They
were definitely kin to them in some way.
Any information on who might have been in Kentucky?
Joyce
This looks like it could be the James Callison who married Jane Sargeant in
1841 Colorado Co. Tx since he has an 8 year old son.
Here are the people that I know were in Kentucky about 1805 when this James
was born
The early Kentucky family were known as Callison/Kellison/Kellerson and any
other variation you can come up with.
Joseph and Robert, children of William. Their children are well documented by
John Callison <roundmt>. John does this James fit into your info at all
Absolom born 1777 Virginia who married Ann Flack and used the name Gillespie
for their children. They went to MO. One line to Mitchell Co. TX in late 1800s
Note: there was also a Susannah Callison who married Christopher Flack (?
siblings). Rena and others have pretty much documented their family. Here are the
children of Absolom according to a family Bible
Children of Absalom Callison and Ann Flack are:
+ 2 i. John Flack2 Callison, born 27 Sep 1804; died 24 Mar 1890 in DeWitt
Co., IL.
3 ii. Benjamin Flack Callison, born 17 Jul 1806; died 21 Sep 1858.
4 iii. Gillespie Callison, born 01 Sep 1808; died 28 Dec 1820.
+ 5 iv. Robert Flack Callison, born 19 Jan 1811 in KY; died 1892 in New
Melle, St. Charles, MO.
6 v. Thomas A. Callison, born 10 Apr 1813; died 12 Feb 1818.
7 vi. Jane G. Callison, born 16 Jul 1815; died 01 Oct 1833.
8 vii. Alexander Callison, born 10 Nov 1817; died 23 Aug 1897.
+ 9 viii. Sally Ann Callison, born 24 Feb 1820; died 27 Jan 1897.
+ 10 ix. Clementine Callison, born 16 Aug 1822; died 16 Feb 1844.
11 x. Matilda Callison, born 20 Mar 1826; died 26 Jul 1844 in St. Charles
Co., MO.
12 xi. Susan Callison, born 18 Mar 1828; died 06 Sep 1828.
13 xii. William F. Callison, born 18 Aug 1830; died 06 Sep 1831.
Hiram who married Jane Donaldson . His line is not on the internet so I am
not real sure about them. His son, John Gillespie Callison was age 30-40 in
1840. HIram was age 50-60 and had male age 10-15 and age 15-20. Seems like one of
these sons was a James.
William who is thought to be the same one who married Marian Chapman in 1805
or so Virginia and then right on to Kentucky in same area where Joseph was
living. There should be enough people on the list to fill in the blanks about
Hiram and William to see if James might belong to either of them.
If there are any descendants of Hiram and William who married Marian Chapman
on this list, would you consider adding a couple of generations to our Master
Callison page to make references easier. You can send to me or to Mark Freeman.
Robert Callison, son of James and Isabelle, was in Kentucky also but I don't
think he was there until close to 1830.
There is a BENNETT CALLISMAN in the 1810 census with 2 males and 2 females
under age 10, 1 male and 1 female age 26-45.Jessamine Co., KY. Also in that
county was a CROCKETT.
1820 census Harrison Co., Ky has him listed as
BENNETT COLLISON (assumed to be the same person)
Male under age 10
male age 10-16 Female age 10-18
male age 16-18
male age 18-26 Female age 18-26
male over age 45 Female over age 45 (probably born about 1775)
The only thing of interest with this gentleman is that family history states
that Hiram had a brother Benjamin and in fact, the one year that Hiram shows
up in tax records of Virginia, there is a Benjamin listed also. I THINK I have
my facts straight on this. I know NOTHING of that Benjamin or of this Bennett.
Bennett COLLISON served as corporal in the War of 1812 Porter's Kentucky
Militia substitute for Chad. Harrison
Hiram CALLISON was a sergeant Capt DAvid Elliott's Mounted Volunteer's
Colonel South
William KELLISON was a private Capt Armstrong Keir
Robert KELLISON was a private, substitute for Tolliver Brounough in Capt
William Sprat's Company, 2nd Regiment Militia
I know there are records for Hiram but I don't know about for the other
people. You can now order records online from the National Archives which might be
something to think about. William SHOULD be the one who married Marian
Chapman, Robert SHOULD be the son of William and brother to Joseph. I'll have to
check dates cause I think he may also have been listed in Ohio. This one was Sept
to Oct 1812, I think. No idea about Bennett.
Rena sends the following info
Absalom was born in 1777; Ann Flack was born 1787. Absalom Callison's
brothers, Robert and Benjamin, both died in May 1813 at Maumee River. It is
recorded in the Bible. Their ages were given so Robert Callison was born
about 1786 and Benjamin Callison was born about 1789. Robert was 27 and
Benjamin was 24 - both old enough to have been married and with families.
Their military records are carried as Kellerson. There was also a James
Callison in the same unit and he wound up in Missouri as well, but I don't
know who he descends from.
Note: REna, what company was this. I could not find them on the internet
files for the War of 1812. Maybe if I search by company.
Now just to confuse the issue, family history has that William Callison, son
of James and Isabella had 15 children by his first wife and 10 by his second.
I honestly don't think that he had any by his second wife and we sure don't
know of 15 with Agnes but just keep this in mind. Actually we did not even know
of the second wife for many years after we knew of the family history so one
just never knows. Also his second wife had many children when he married her so
that may have been how that story started.
