There was another James Callison in Texas, remember, who had a son named Alex Callison. He
live in Fayette Co., Texas in 1850. Fayette County is next door to Gonzales Co. where Sam
Callison lived. This James Callison was born in Ky. I have no idea when he was born but
will check. Sam Callison settled in Houston County where the courthouse burned twice. My
ggrandmother, Louisa Callison Treadwell, said she was raised in Anderson County, which was
made from Houston County. That was where Sam Callison and Martha Yarbrough, his second
wife, were married. I am not sure when he moved to Gonzales Co. His original land grant of
4000 acres was in Houston Co. with the Box families. John Gillespie, the older, also got a
grant in Houston County. He came to Texas in 1838, or at least got a land grant then. He
went back to Alabama and returned in 1843.
I will see if I can find any info on the other James. He has been kind of ignored although
we have always wondered who he was. As I said, my hair is getting more gray in it daily.

In the early Callison family, especially in Kentucky and occasionally in
Ohio, the name was sometimes listed as KELLISON or a variation. Maybe James and
Sarah went to Kentucky before heading to Texas and had a child there, I don't
think we have anything on them from their marriage to his death, do we?
Just some thoughts for early in the morning. Take care. Marilyn
