The earliest record of a Collison in Ireland is in the 1650 Censusof Ireland. A Robert
Collison is shown as one of the tituladoes inLimerick (holding title to property there ).
He was probably from anEnglish family settled through land grants in Elizabethan times.
Theyprobably moved to the protection of the Pale centred around Dublin beforethe Siege of
Limerick in 1691 when that town was the scene of the lastresistance to the Williamite
forces following the Catholic retreat fromthe Boyne.
Extracts fromI.G.I. show the birth on July 16, 1711 of Eliza, daughter of James
andMargaret Callison. Marilyn's note. How interesting -- James and Margaret. When I go
to SLC next time I'll see if I can find where this took place. And the spelling is
Callison. Could Eliza be a sister of James and James and Margaret, his parents?
