Marilyn,
I know it is sad to lose your mother. It sounds like she died doing something she would
really have loved instead of being in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. It is wonderful
that you had her until she was 100. My mother died five years ago, and she would have been
100 this year. You miss them but you would not call them back for anything.
You are right that a whole library closes. They truly came from another generation and
another way of life. They could tell stories that none of the rest of us would even know
if they had not told us.

So sorry to hear of your
loss. I have seen you in quite a few years...but have
continued to appreciate your work and reflections. Whenever
I drive by the Callison Cemetery or the old properties...I
think of you and your sisters' visit.
Please accept my
sympathies.

Hey all, I
have been on an emotional roller coaster for the last week
or so but wanted to clue you in on what has been going
on. Ray and I went on a cruise with one of our
sons and his family out of Galveston to Belize, Honduras and
Mexico. While on the cruise, my 100 year old mother got
pneumonia and died. This was a possibility any time that
my siblings or myself traveled. We got home Sunday night,
drove to Montgomery, Al Monday AM for the funeral service at
her church, got up Tuesday AM drove to Pensacola, FL for the
burial service in the National Cemetery where my dad is
buried and then got in the car and drove back to Madison,
MS. I did really well at compartmentalizing generations.
We celebrated our son's birthday on the cruise and all
the fun things with his family and when I got home, I
celebrated my mom's life and acknowledged my sadness.
Thankfully, I have no regrets in my relationship with her.
I know that she knew she was loved and I know that I was

. We told
each other this daily over the last few years. She
was
prepared and ready ( actually has been for years) to meet
her Lord. She was buried with her cellphone -- she kept it
with her always-- did not want to miss her phone calls from
her family. Most of her friends were already deceased as
you can well imagine. Someone once told me that when an
older family member dies, a library closes it's doors.
That is so true. Her mind was SHARP up to the end and she
told wonderful family stories. We were absolutely amazed at
the National Cemetery in Pensacola. Since Ray's
parents were buried there 10 years ago, the cemetery has
been completely filled and they had to open an annex across
the street and that portion has over 1000 crosses already.
Our Vets, esp. WW II, have literally fought all their
battles and earned their just rewards. So much history in
that cemetery -- I hope that future generations never lose
sight of these heros - both the men and women who fought

O'Conor Thomas-- she
died on July 17, 2014 in
Montgomery, Alabama. Take care all, Marilyn Hansen
