Subject: Update 3-21
Hello cousin,
Just a note to tell you we are all doing okay here.
Still aftershocks and soon shortages of food and paper products, but
starting to find more on the shelves and as I mentioned, I have a good stock
to last a few weeks in the worst case.
But I do not think it will come to that. The nuclear radiation risk is low
at the moment and the power company seems to be getting things under
control.
Unless something unforeseen happens I think the risk will be reduced even
more.
Many foreigners in JApan have left of moved south and my company has
contingency plans to relocate to our factories in southern Japan is the
situation becomes critical, but I would be surprised if it happens.
A report by a physics professor at UCSB where I went to school lays out the
facts on the radiation and confirms my conclusions that the TV news is
painting an exaggerated picture.
The death toll continues to increase and I am sure it will be high, but more
survivors are being found still.
We had Monday off for a national holiday and it was a nice extra rest before
returning to the office.
Our people in the main quake area all were okay and our CEO was there that
day too. It will take weeks for the lesser hit Tokyo to return to normal and
more for the northern part of the island. I expect a short term hit on the
economy, but in the long run the people here are resilient and rebuilding
will be an impetus to economy stimulation in the building related
industries.
Your still vigilant but not overly concerned cousin,
Michael
