Howdy,
First while the situation in the north is very serious, the main problem in
Tokyo is many empty supermarket shelves.
with more than 13 million people worried about having enough supplies, they
empty many products quickly.
While inconvenient it is not critical yet.
Personally I have a well stocked larder and can go for several weeks if need
be. I am not sure it will be necessary, but I always have several cases of
bottled water and soda on hand.
A lot of canned and package goods and a full refrigerator and freezer.
Parts of Tokyo are under a rolling blackout to conserve electricity, but my
area and office area are exempted so far.
Transportation is .increasingly coming back to normal.
We have after shocks daily but none to worry about.
Watching the western news media and following on the Internet I think they
are exaggerating the use of adjectives that put a negative slant on the
situation.
The nuclear situation is unclear, with reports on both sides of how well
they are dealing with it. I am cautiously optimistic.
But I watch reports throughout the day in case the situation changes. I am
not panicking yet. And I am aware vigilance is necessary.
My office is working most of the day, but on days when it looks like
transportation lines may be stopped they send us home early.
We have practice drills and complete plans for all situations. I am sure the
company would move us south if necessary. Our factories are in Hiroshima at
the southern end of the island and very distant from the troubled nuclear
plants.
I will try to keep you up to date regularly.
I do remember when Elinda stayed with your parents and I met her on a couple
of other occasions, but we were not really close as I recall. We were near
the same age I thin,k but I never kept in touch.
All are well here and coping. Not to worry.
Hope you are all doing well too.
Michael
