Joyce, the strangest thing is that Laramie is listed through Ancestry DNA rather than
familytreedna. He is the only Callison listed on Ancestry. Go to ancestry and then click
on DNA at the top of the page and put in CALLISON when searching for surname. For
familytreedna go to
familytreedna.com and then put in COLLISON where it says to search for
surname. On the left of the page it says y-dna results. OR if you have his kit number and
password -- use the log in at the top of the familytreedna home page. When you test on
family tree you can order the family finder test -- expensive -- $250 or so. I am not real
familiar with it but apparently it tests maternal and paternal dna back generations. It is
like 90% accurate at 4 generations, 50% at 5 generations and then it decreases as you go
back. It does not tell you what surname matches just that you and this person have SOME of
the same DNA. One person that I matched with said that she has found the connection with
two of her matches and they were born back quite a bit more than the 5 generations which
gives me hope. Let me know what you find out or if you need more info. Take care. Marilyn

Marilyn,
I don't know if you remember but the people from familytree DNA never sent me
anything about who Samuel matches. At one point you had said that he matched
someone. How do I log onto the Callison website? I am not familiar with that
test that you mentioned. How do I find out about it?
Joyce

Good morning all, Just wanted to pass something along that
is probably coincidental but interesting. FamilytreeDNA has
a new test called family finder -- rather expensive- but I
decided to have my brother's sample tested that they have on
file. It is supposed to test paternal and maternal lines
back to 2nd great grandparents. So basically, you draw a
tree backwards to include yourself, 2 parents, 4
grandparents, 8 great grandparents and 16 great great
grandparents -- it tests for those 16 surnames. There is a
50 % accuracy rate for those 16 surnames. I only had two
matches and so far have found no connection BUT in one of
the matches -- he connects back to McCORKLE in Augusta Co.,
VA and in the other one she connects to a McCLURE but does
not have her line back as early as we do. Now what is
interesting in case you forgot -- there has been some
discussion about John Callison SR being married to Martha
McCorkle -- in her father's will, she was named as Martha
Calhison. So th!
is idea needs to be revisited on the off chance that we
carry McCorkle DNA. Has anyone else had this test done esp.
anyone from John and Jane to see if you matched this same
gentleman. Sadly, the email that he submitted -- is not
current so I have cannot get in touch with him. Even though
McClure and McCorkle are not in the 16 surnames that my tree
suggests (they are earlier generations) the McClure match
said that the ones that she was able to confirm on her
matches were all earlier that those 16 surnames. Martha
McCorkle's father was Samuel and we know of no Samuel that
was the son of John Callison Sr but we know of later
Samuel's that we cannot attach to anyone either.
Interesting, huh? Take care. Marilyn
