The CALLISON name has been spelled in various ways throughout the years. It was
originally CALLISON in Virginia but the lines that went to various counties of Ohio, used
the COLLISON spelling eventually converting back to CALLISON even though pronounced
COLLISON. The lines that went to Kentucky are often found as KELLISON or KELLERSON. Care
has been taken to look for all alternate spellings and to differentiate descendants of the
KELLISON family of early Virginia from the CALLISON family of the same time and location.
John is presumed to be the father of John who married Jane McCLURE His father James'
will was probated in 1789 Augusta County, Virginia. We have no information on James and
Isabella's son, John, except that he had a daughter Isabelle mentioned in James'
will. This John is presumed to be the father of John who married Jane McCLURE because:
1) John or William are the only sons of James and Isabella old enough to have a child in
1769 and William had none listed with him in 1787 who would have been born 1766-1771.
2) John #1 had male born 1766-1771 in 1787 tax record and John who went to Ohio is known
to have been born in 1769. There were 2 males listed. The other is possibly James who died
in 1828 Greenbrier County, Virginia.
3) There was a John and John Jr. who paid tax 1789 Greenbrier County, Virginia where John
CALLISON and Jane McCLURE were married in 1789
4) There was a John Jr. and John Sr. who paid tax 1805-1808 Bath County, Virginia
5) Other grandchildren of James and Isabella also went to Clark County, Ohio (children of
Richard and Jane CALLISON MORRIS) in the same time period and lived adjacent to John and
Jane McCLURE CALLISON.
6) 10-9-1811 Bath County, Virginia Deed book 5 page 430 John CALLISON "of Champaign
Co., Ohio" verifies Bath County, Virginia John is Ohio John
The wife of John is unknown but I suspect that her name may have been Elizabeth -- the
name of John Jr.'s first daughter and also the name of the sister of James who died in
1828 that Is presumed (by me) to be the son of John Sr.
