Records pertaining to the younger James Callison who had three marriages -- Elizabeth
McCallister, Mary Callison, Elizabeth Young. The two James Callisons were related
From Evelyn Witeck in a nutshell: "James Callison arrived in America about 1763/65.
First record of him is at a Quaker meeting in Burlington New Jersey monthly meeting. Wm.
Wade Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of America Quaker genealogy Vol 11 Pg 206 shows 5 Aug
1765, a James Callison was received on certificate from Ballyhagen, Armagh Co, Ireland
dated 8-5-1763. The only other Callison in the Ency. was James Callison's daughter,
Ruth who married John Jones in Tenn. She is listed on page 1117 of Vol 1 of Mr.
Hinshaw's encyc. at a monthly meeting at Lost Creek, Tn in Jefferson County. On
12/29/1804 she was "received by request" at the meeting. Then on 10/31/1807 Ruth
Jones (formerly Callerson) was "condemned" because she "married contrary to
discipline."
Goes on to mention "James Callison was exempted from muster at a court martial in
Augusta Co. 4/11/1766"
which Witeck assumes is probably because he was a Quaker.
