Back to working on Jim's family to see if anything rings a bell with anyone.
Addison Fraizer Callisons obit says that he was born in VA in 1854 and after his mom's death, his father along with his three sons and 1 daughter moved to Iowa. Addison was about 8 years old at the time. So I am looking for a William born Virginia in 1850 census with a 6 year old son named Addison, daughter named Eliza -- no clue about the other sons since they were all deceased when he died in 1925.
So NOTHING like this in the 1860 census
IN 1864 William married Rosethel Merrow -- not found in 1870 but 1880 finds them in Kellogg, Jasper Co., IA
William was age 56 (born about 1824 WV along with his parents). Six children listed with William must have Rosethel as mother because they are all younger than 15
Frazier married in 1878 to Dora Morrow
William must have had a brother James W. born about 1822 WV married to Margaret born VA
James or William must have had a son, Cyrus born about 1852 Virginia and married to Eliza born Iowa
INTERESTING NOTE
Cyrus, (son of Isaac, 2 Anthony, 3 thrice married James)-- also had a son named Addison Frazier born about 1863 and went to Iowa also
Joseph, son of Antho
ny, 2 thrice married James)-- also had a son named Addison Frazier born about 18
41
What am I missing here??? OOHH maybe a clue
James W. born 1822 and Margaret with son Cyrus born 1852 is in the Callison family file so William HAS TO BE SOMEWHERE IN THE FILE.
OK, so maybe this mystery is solved
William must be William T. married to Martha Hickman (even though obit has Nancy 60 years after the fact). His age is right, he has a daughter named Eliza and Addison has a sister named Eliza
So Jim your family line is
129. William T.6 Callison (William C.5, Isaac C.4, James3, Anthony2, <Unknown>1) was born 03 Dec 1823. He married Martha Jane Hickman 03 Oct 1850 in Greenbrier Co., WV.
Child of William Callison and Martha Hickman is:
353 i. Eliza Jane7 Callison, born 08 Nov 1856
Mark, will you add this other marriage and children of this marriage to the file and also add Addison Frazier to his marriage with Martha
Rosethel and William Children
from 1880 census
Myrtie, age 14, all children born Iowa
Franklin, age 13,
Minnie, age 11,
Theodore, age 9
Sarah, age 7
Eltie, age 3, daughter (obit for Addison names 1/2 BROTHER Elton C.)
Jim, the thrice married James Callison had 3 sons from his first marriage to Elizabeth McAllis
ter (Anthony, Isaac and James). He is represented with James3 in the entry for # 129 and is known to be from County Armagh, Ireland. DNA testing for lines from Anthony, Isaac and James all compare with each other as it does with the other Callison lines from an older James (? uncle). So you can see that Isaac, son of the thrice married James is your line. How does it feel to carry such an ancient name -- James Callison.
You can get the vitals on the early family at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~markfreeman/callanth.html
James and Margaret were still in Greenbrier Co, VA in 1860 but did not find William
in 1860 Newton, Jasper County, Iowa was the family of James Callison, line of Jesse Callison who was son of thrice married James
So Jim, let me know if you get this via the Callison mail list and if I don't hear from you, I"ll send you a copy. Take care. Marilyn
Worried about job security? Check out the 5 safest jobs in a recession.
Anyone know the significance of the name Addison Frazier Callison in the line of Isaac Callison, descendant of thrice married James? I have no clue -- just thought it interesting. The name Cyrus was also duplicated. Maybe the second and third families just liked it so much, they adopted it. Take care. Marilyn
Terry, many people will put Virginia as the place of birth before the Civil War and then WV after the Civil War if they were in the part of Virginia that became West Virginia. Greenbrier Co was in Virginia until West Virginia was formed but all the records for Greenbrier (land records etc) are in West Virginia even though the county was in Virginia at one time. Does that make any sense at all. I think the answers on the census records after 1860 just reflect individual taste BUT if they record their place of birth as WV(after the Civil War) and born before the Civil War then you can figure that they were in one of the Virginia counties that became WV. Get's confusing, doesn't it? Take care. Marilyn

I am making a DNA chart showing all of our results, the differences etc and need some help
I have 3 lines from the thrice married James but not sure which son the three descend from. I know Isaac, Anthony and James and not even sure that the people tested are on this list but I have Ken, Stanley and Gilmer.
I am OK with the two lines from John Sr/John Jr (Arthur and Charles) and the two lines from Moses(Ezekial and James)
Can anyone help? And has anyone identified Jim's William and Nancy from Virginia to Iowa?
Take care all. Marilyn
I was trying to help Jim subscribe to the Callison mail list. Can someone help, Please. Does he need to send his request to Callison-request(a)rootsweb.com or just to Callison(a)rootsweb.com. It's been so long ago that I signed up that I no longer remember. Jim is going to write to get the birth certificate for his Jack Callison to see if he is the same person as Clinton Callison. His documentation is good back to Addison Frazier (not the same Addison that I sent earlier but an Addison born about 10 years later and went to Jasper Co., Iowa) and Addison was the son of William and Nancy Callison (how many combinations do we have with William and Nancy? LOTS!!) So what William and Nancy would this be? Any ideas?
Y'all just jump right in and connect any dots that you know about. Take care. Marilyn
1930 census Kellogg, Jasper County, Iowa
Erville Callison, age 50, head of household, born Iowa, father born Pennsylvania, mother born Ohio, first married at age 21, farmer, Veteran/No
Nancy E., wife, age 28, first married at age 21, she and parents born Illinois
Clemont F., son, age 18, he and parents born Iowa, farm laborer
Eli INMAN, boarder, age 69, he and parents born Ohio, horseman
So this is Erville apparently with a second wife. All signs this far seem to be that Clement and Jack are one and the same. You definitely have all the people
-- just don't know about the Jack. Also need to check an earlier census for Erville to see if he documents Pennsylvania as his fathers birthplace -- not a common
spot for this family. They are living next door to Ross and Myrtle Callison --ages 25 and 21 (? son and daughter in law)
1920 census Jasper Co, Iowa has
40 year old Erville, widowed born Iowa, father born VA, mother born Ohio, with 5 children: Bess 17, Ross 15, Myrtle 13, Clement 9, female Francis 11
In 1880 Jasper Co., Iowa we find three Callison families living next to each other
J. W. Callison born about 1852, he and parents born WV
Frazier born about 1854, he and parents born WV, wife Dora age 21, born Iowa, parents born Ohio, son Erville, age 1 born Iowa
Robert born about 1857, he and parents born WV
At this time (1880) there is 17 year old Frazier with his family in Linn, Warren Co., Iowa. Family fil
es online have him as Abner Frazier Callison, son of Cyrus Callison
1900 census Jasper Co.
Erville Callison born May 1879 in household of parents, A. F born Feb. 1854, he and parents born Virginia and Amanda born Dec. 1861, she born Iowa and parents born Ohio, married 22 years, mother of 6 children, 6 living
1915 Iowa State Census, Jasper Co., Iowa
Erville earned $400 in 1914, owed $13000 on his farm and housing valued at $20000, was member of Methodist Episcopal Church, finished 10th grade. Mrs. Erville was member of Christian Church and finished 8th grade.
1925 Iowa State Census Jasper Co, Iowa
Erville with 2 years college, son of Frazier Callison born PA and Dora Morris born Ohio, married in Iowa
Nancy with 4 years of college, daughter of Henry Fowden and Laura Calkin both born Illinois
Ross, son, age 20, 7 years of school
Myrtle, daughter, age 18 with 12 years of school
Clement, son, age 14 with 7 years school, attended school 9 months in the previous year
Francis, daughter, age 12, with 8 years of school
WW I Draft registration
Erville Thurlough Callison born May 22, 1878, nearest relative Minnie A. Callison Sept 12, 1918 Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa
Tall, stout, blue eyes, brown hair
OK Everyone, does this look like Hiram's family -- do we have Hiram's family on the website -- if so, I can't find it.
OK all of you thrice married James Callison descendants -- feel free to jump in here and get involved <smile> What is known about Jim's family/ Take care all, Marilyn
1920 census -- no Jack Callison
5 John Callisons born 1911 -- where was your Jack born.
Only -- Erville was in Jasper Co., Iowa in 1920 -- with 9 year old son but son named Clement -- same thing for 1930 census
So we know 100% that Jack is your grandfather, right? and we know from his SS that he was born 1911 and sometimes Jack is a nickname for John. So just have to connect some more dots

Good morning again, I wanted to pass along when you look for records for your Addison--- the family went to Illinois before Iowa. He served in the Civil War and got a pension for his service, filing July 1890 for invalid pension in Nebraska-- application # 082.086 Certificate # 603276. If you want to get his death certificate from Idaho, it is # 032973 and Boise is in Ada County, Idaho. They lived in Saline Co., NE in 1880, Filmore Co., NE in 1900 and in a Soldier's Home/Military Barracks in Boise in 1920

Hi James, John forwarded your email on to me. Here is the website for your ancestry
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~markfreeman/callanth.html
Addison Frazier Callison is # 92 and then work your way backwards.
This site does not show a son, Erville, but it only represents files that have been submitted by other Callison researchers. There is a
Charles Edward born 1880 though.
If I remember correctly, Addison served in the Civil War.
Please sign up to join the Callison mail list and then send your query on to them -- may be some Addison descendants lurking around there. Take care. Thanks John, for sending the info on James. Marilyn

I saw a post from you on Genealogy.com. You mentioned a web site. I
would like to get it from you. My name is James R Callison Jr. I
recently found a piece of a puzzle that has opened up doors that I could
never imagine. My grandfather Jack F Callison passed away in 1981 and my
grandmother passed away in 1999. I never was able to go further back
than that until I got my grandmothers photo albums from my step mother
and found a High School Diploma from The Independent School District of
Kellogg, Iowa for Erville Callison.
I have been able to search online and came up with this. Erville
was my great grandfather and his father Addison "Frasier" Callison moved
to Iowa from Virginia.
Here is more of the info I need help with. My grandfather Jack F
Callison was married once before he married my Grandmother Joan. I have
no idea what her maiden name was.
I look forward to hearing back from
you.

Absolom settled in Hancock Co. Ill, in 1840, having come over from Ohio.
There he met and married Mary Jane Pennock in 1842.
Gilmore and family arrived in Hancock co, in 1833. He and brother
Josiah started a church there and rode circuit around the county.
It would be strange if the two familys did not know about each
other.
John details the deaths of two people who he names in his diary. One
was Josophine Bristow who was related by way of his Uncle Robert. Ab
solom
was the other. THey were related to him so he names them.
They had to be first cousins by just following the family down from William
Sr.
There must have been communication as William was with Joseph
in Kentucky in 1815 and so knew Gilmore and the rest of the family. He came
all the way from Ohio to get married at the house of his son Joseph.
Finally, Absoloms widow, remarried and her descendents in their records
state that she was once married to a cousin of the Callison family in Lane, Co
Oregon, where Gilmore settled.

Thanks John for reminding all of us about that Callison connection also --
Newenham's had Absolom's also. So descendant of Nancy Callison Newenham
traveled on the Oregon Trail from Illinois with descendant of William Callison,
Sr.. The Newenham's were Ohio to Illinois and that particular William Sr branch
was never in Ohio (that we know of) so obviously had communication between
the families. Do we know that the two Oregon Trail people were first cousins? I
did not realize that. Take care all, Marilyn

Hi Susanne, Always nice to hear from you. Your Benjamin is one that I am
familiar with -- just not sure where his name comes from. The Isabella that
we
need a last name for is the wife of James of Augusta Co., VA. Probably will
never find this info. Yes, James and Isabel did have a daughter named Nancy
but
I am not sure if she is the same one who married Thomas Blair -- I need
some
help on her-- because her mom and younger brothers were living in Augusta
Co
the year she was married but she married in
Greenbrier Co. Actually was in
Greenbrier a year before her marriage according to a court case. -- Could be
daughter of William or John, sons of James and Isabel. Actually, William's
first wife was Agnes and we know that his second wife was a widow -- Frances
Hurt. There is discussion also about Nancy who married Shadrack Newenham --
Cutlip researchers say that she is the illigitimate daughter of John
Callison
and Elizabeth Cutlip. She also could be the daughter of William and A!
gnes since we know William was in Gallia Co., OH when she married BUT
apparently0 the Cutlips were also in the area. The same minister married her
as
the
one who married James Callison. However -- how did Shadrack meet Nancy
Callison IF she was with William in 1801 Ohio. Shadrack was in Bath Co., VA
1801,
1802, 1803 along with John Callison and George Cutlip (father of Elizabeth
Cutlip Callison). There is another Nancy who enters the picture also --
Nancy
married David Boiler in Bath Co about 1805-- William Sr. not in the area--
whose husband ended up witnessing the will of George Cutlip in Pike Co., OH
--
So
we have three (4 actually if we count the one who married 1803 in TN)
Nancys
-- those who married Blair (1795), Newenham (1806), Boiler (1805) and the
one in TN (1803). Anyone got any ideas? Take care. Marilyn

Is the Isabella you're looking for the Isabella Jones that married James
Callison in 1806 in Gallia Co., OH? If it is, that's a
ll I have on her.
In my records (and I don't know if this is absolutely right or not) James &
Isabel had a daughter Agnes, (who was referred to as Nancy), but she was
married in 1795 to Thomas Blair in Greenbrier, VA. Moving on--James &
Isabel's son William (first wife UNK and 2nd Agnes Beard?), had a daughter,
Nancy, who married Shadrack Newman in 1806 in Ohio.
I don't know if these are the people you're looking for, but this is what I

There he met and married Mary Jane Pennock in 1842.
Gilmore and family arrived in Hancock co, in 1833. He and brother
Josiah started a church there and rode circuit around the county.
It would be strange if the two familys did not know about each

John details the deaths of two people who he names in his diary. One
was Josophine Bristow who was related by way of his Uncle Robert. Absolom
was the other.
Finally, Absoloms widow, remarried and her descendents in their records

certainly nice to have some documentation of the closeness of the relationship.

I have Shadrack marring Nancy in 1808 in Gallia Co, Ohio. her son went
with Gilmore, who was in Illinois, in 1852 on Oregon Trail
Gilmore-Joseph-William. They were first cousins.

She also could be the daughter of William and A!
gnes since we know William was in Gallia Co., OH when she married BUT
apparently the Cutlips were also in the area.
Take care. Marilyn

Subject: Re: [CALLISON] How many with Benjamins
Marilyn, In answer to a couple of your questions--My first Benjamin shows
up 1833 (or 35), born in LapPorte Co., IN, son of William and Lorahama
(Crow) Callison. As far as I can tell he lived only in Indiana and Iowa.
Is the Isabella you're looking for the Isabella Jones that married James
Callison in 1806 in Gallia Co., OH? If it is, that's all I have on her.
I don't know if these are the people you're looking for, but this is what I
have for records of my direct line. I haven't dealt too much in any of the
side branches.
Susanne
