My GUESS -- your William-- but just a gut feeling. He apparently left
Kentucky and went to Morgan Co. MO.-- two sons that are known -- William and
Absolom but census suggests others. Guess I need to do Morgan Co tax records next
year when I go to Salt Lake City.

No idea about Hiram. WE know that he was probably an illigitimate child of
either a female or a male Callison and a Baldwin. If his male line DNA matches
our Callisons then we'll know that a male Callison was his father. If it does
not match then more likely his surname was BALDWIN since he was known as
both Callison and Baldwin.
He appears to have been raised by James and Isabelle and after the death of
James, Robert became his care giver. James died in 1789 and when Hiram married
in 1805, his marriage contract said that he had been in the care of Robert
for 16 years.
He and Robert were both listed in Augusta Co., census in 1810 and he was in
tax records previous to that point with Robert along with a Benjamin one year.
Absolom was said to have a brothers Benjamin and Robert who died in the
War of 1812. This pretty well eliminates William as the father of Absolom,
Benjamin and Robert because he had a known son Robert who did not marry until
after the War of 1812.
HIram was in Madison Co., KY during the War of 1812. He and Absolom both
used GILLESPIE as middle names. I don't have a lot of facts on Hiram -- birth,
marriage, death, children etc other than I know he had a son, John Gillespie
Callison.
Take care. Marilyn

John, what year are you looking at -- I have that Joseph died 1834 and his
estate was settled 1839, 1841, 1853 and 1862 to William Settle, David Loveall,
Nathan Smith and Charles Callison.
The other estates that he was involved in were in 1808 involving the widow
Charity Dawson and her children James Dawson of Mercer Co. Elijah Dawson of
Lincoln C. Joseph Callison in right of his wife, Susannah
Then in 1820, he was involved in land sale that had Nathan Hurt had owned
and Frances was selling it.
I hope that at least answers this one -- I'll check on your other questions.

Lots of information here. Questions?

Enough already

Note: Lincoln, Garrard, Adair, Casey and Madison Co were all in the same
area/
Lincoln formed 1780 from Kentucky Co., VA
Garrard form 1797 from Lincoln and Madison Co., KY
Casey form 1807 from Lincoln
Madison from 1786 from Lincoln
Adair 1802 from Green
Green 1793 from Lincoln
So you can see that Lincoln was the BIG county to start with -- like Augusta
and Greenbrier and then the other counties developed out of Lincoln. In
these areas we have Absolom, Joseph, Robert, William Sr., William Jr. Susannah
Callison Flack, and Hiram. Note: ABsolom and Hiram both used Gillespie as a
middle name in their children
Note" -- we'll know more about Hiram when the DNA results come in. Wish we
had more lines to compare but will at least know if he descended from a male or
female Callison
Joseph Callison married 1801 Adair Co., KY

John and all, as most of you know, many county court records have been
microfilmed and stored at the Family HIstory Library in Salt Lake City. As I
understand it, there are duplicates of all of these microfilms in a secure vault
that can be safe even through an earthquake -- this vault is inside one of the
mountains surrounding Salt Lake City. You can go to _familysearch.org_
(http://www.familysearch.org) to find what microfilms are available. Go to family
history library and then catalog and then place search -- for instance ADAIR
on the first line and Kentucky on the second line. That will bring up all of
the microfilms, microfiche, books etc on Adair Co., KY. They click on the
ones you are interested in -- in my case TAXATION-- and then film notes to give
you the various years on what microfilms. You don't have to go to Salt Lake
City. You can order any of the microfilms at your local family history
library -- about $5 for two weeks use-- and when they come in -- research to your
hearts content.

So you can tell that I got the personal property tax for Adair Co in
microfilm # 7851 and part of # 7852. So if anyone wants to look at the records
themselves these would be the films to order
I did the same for Greenbrier and Bath Co., VA along with Garrard Co., KY.
It is AMAZING what info you can find in this card catalog.
Enjoy. Take care. Marilyn
I don't know where you found all these tax records. I sure couldn't find
them. William jr did move to Illinois in 1836 according to his biographer.
Robert evidently left for Missouri in 1824 altho he had children
born 1824-26-30
According to these notes, William was certainly there in 1830, and I agree
that the William after that year was Josephs son William.
I surely do appreciate all your efforts and time in finding this
information for all of us out here who for one reason or another can't get to
the right places to find it.

interesting because I thought that he and Alexander went to Ohio at the same time
but Alexander was still in Bath Co in 1809. I wonder if Moses was in Gallia
with William in 1806. He would have been tithable age in 1803 and NOT listed

William in Gallia Co. Now, why did he go to Ross Co to get married? Did the

Still trying to differentiate all the James Callisons in Greenbrier and Bath
Co Virginia -- particularly, the one who died in 1827. I have got to assume
that there is not anyone on this list from the thrice married James to help me
out with early info so just flying by the seat of my pants. I don't know
when he was in Greenbrier and when he was in Grainger Co. TN. However, he
married in 1800 in TN so will assume from that point on that he was in TN until
1808 when he died.
In 1774 and 1775 James, William and John Callison were listed in Botetourt
Co with land in Greenbrier in Big Levels/Spring Creek area
The first James in Greenbrier tax records is 1782 and assumed to be this
thrice married James with his wife, Mary Callison, sister of John and William.
No older males
In 1787 he has two males from the age of 16-21 -- according to our estimated
births for his sons, Anthony, Isaac and James -- they should all be older
than 16 but possibly Isaac was not yet 16
In 1788, James has 1 extra male and Anthony has his own listing
In 1789 James has no extra male. Anthony still with own listing -- Is this
now James, the father OR is it James who died unmarried in 1827. John has gone
from 3 extra males to none and John Jr is now listed. James possibly one of
the extras in John's household
1790 James -- no extra male, Anthony and Isaac with own listings. According
to estimated age, James (brother of Anthony and Isaac) would not yet be 21 to
have his own listing but he should be tithable over age 16. Where is he?
TN? According to this record, Isaac was born about 1768 and our master list
has him as 1766
1791 Same as 1790. In 1789, James was designated as Jr. but should not be
the son of James because our estimation of his birth was 1770 so probably James
who died un married in 1827
1793 James (no Jr) in Greenbrier with William, John Sr, John Jr and Anthony.
Isaac has gone to Bath Co. James who died unmarried was over age 46 in 1810
so certainly titheable at this time
1794 John Jr to Bath Co this year. James still in Greenbrier. William with
extra male
1795 Anthony to Bath Co this year. James, John Sr and William still in
Greenbrier. William with extra male
1796 Same as 1795. William with extra male
1797 William no longer listed. Alexander and Absolom now age 21 with own
listing. James, brother to Anthony and Isaac married this year but not sure
where he is listed
1798 - 1802 James and John Sr in Greenbrier. Still no extra James anywhere.
William (should be the one who married Marian Chapman) shows up for the first
time -- born about 1780
1802 Bath Co. Jesse (brother to Anthony and Isaac) shows up. Had he been in
TN with his dad until his death?
1803 John Sr now to Bath Co also. Greenbrier with James, Isaac, Jessy and
William
1804 Greenbrier James, Isaac, Jesse and William, Bath Co John Sr. John Jr.
Alexander and Anthony. Which James???
1805 this is the first time that we now have 2 James listed
Greenbrier Isaac and JAMES (Spring Creek) and Bath Co John Jr, John Sr.
Anthony and JAMES
1806 - 1807 Greenbrier Isaac and JAMES -- Bath John Jr. and Sr. Alexander,
Anthony and JAMES. The James in Greenbrier at this time is assumed to be the
James who died unmarried in 1827-- he was never in Bath Co to the best of my
knowledge. The James in Greenbrier had land on Spring Creek which is where
William, John and the elder James all had original land. In later tax records it
looks as though a later James also had land on Spring Creek which is not
surprizing since William, James and John all had original land in the area.
1809 Greenbrier Isaac and JAMES Bath Co: John Sr apparently deceased. John
Jr. Alexander, JAMES, Anthony, Isaac
1810 Greenbrier Isaac, Elisha, Samuel. Elisha and Samuel were the 2 youngest
sons of the thrice married James. Where did they come from ?? TN?/ Bath Co
JAMES, Anthony and Isaac. John Jr and Alexander had gone to Ohio and Jesse was
in Washington Co., VA at this time.
1811 Greenbrier Co., JAMES, Isaac, Samuel and Elisha. James was listed the
same day as John Coulter. James who died in 1827 left his plantation to
Margaret Coulter. Bath Co., Anthony, JAMES and Isaac. Anthony with extra tithable
male. Should be a son born 1794/1795
1812 Greenbrier JAMES, Elisha, Isaac. Samuel had probably gone back to TN.
Bath Co. Anthony, JAMES and Isaac. Isaac with an extra titheable male ---
should be his son, William C born 1795
1813 Same as 1812 except that Anthony has two extra males -- should be
Abraham and James B. Callison -- born 1794 and 1796 approximately
1814 Same as 1812 but Anthony with 3 extra males -- born 1794, 1796, 1797
approximately. Still with JAMES in Greenbrier and JAMES in Bath Co
1815 Greenbrier James, Isaac and Elisha. Isaac with two extra males -- one
born 1795 and one born 1798 approximately. Bath Co. JAMES and Anthony
1816 Greenbrier Elisha, Abraham, JAMES and Capt Isaac. Abraham is son of
Anthony. He is now age 21 -- born 1795 (we have 1797 for approximate date of
birth on master page). Bath Co. Anthony now with only 2 extra males since
Abraham is now age 21. JAMES with one extra male. This would be his son, Isaac born
about 1799/1800
1817 Greenbrier Elisha had two titheable males but he is listed as Elisha
Callison and Price -- no clue who Price is but seems to be a last name. JAMES
(still no extra males-- probably because unmarried), Capt Isaac and William.
William was the extra male who first showed up with Isaac in 1812 and is now
age 21 -- born about 1795. Isaac now down to one extra male
I did not follow Bath Co after 1816.
1818 Greenbrier JAMES, Elisha Callison and Price, Williiam and Capt. Isaac.
Isaac is back to no extra males over age 16. His son James may be listed
elsewhere
1819 - 1823 Greenbrier JAMES (now called James Sr), Elisha and Price, Capt
Isaac, William and James. This should be the unmarried James (AKA Sr), Elisha
and his brother Isaac and William and James -- sons of Isaac. Sometimes
James, son of Isaac, is listed as James Jr.
1824 Isaac adds another titheable -- Andrew born 1808
1825 there are 3 JAMES plus Isaac and William
1826 and 1827has a large group in Greenbrier
Abraham, James Jr. James Sr, James, William, Isaac (with extra male) and
Elisha
1828 the unmarried James is now deceased. We have Abraham, James on Spring
Creek, Elisha, William C, Isaac and James on Meadows.
I know you are TIRED of these personal tax records but definitely appears
that John Sr had at least 3 males and possibly 4 -- 2 were age 16-21 in 1787
and another one reached 16 in 1788 -- that same one was listed 1790 and 1791 OR
another one. The difficult thing is that when the titleable number decreases
-- there are no new Callison's to reflect this -- other than John Jr in
1789. A real puzzle but definitely had at least 3 males over age 16 in the
household with John Sr in 1788. Anyone got any discussion about this? Take care.
Marilyn
Thanks -- big age difference between Joseph and Robert. I checked Virginia
tax records -- all males were counted as titheable between 16 and 21 and then
when they were age 21 had their own name listed. Not necessarily a head of
household -- just had their own listing.
In 1797 Alexander and James Collison were listed on June 28. Now -- I don't
know the other James Callison family well enough to know if this James is one
of them OR if it is the James who died in 1827 that I think is son of John
Sr. This would be helpful to know.
William is no longer listedl
John Sr is listed on May 20 and Absolom is listged on May 13
The James who died in 1827 appears to be listed in tax records of 1819 and
1824-1827 as James Sr so appararently the oldest of the James in the area -- I
think he was also called that on 1820 census.
In 1802 Bath Co., VA
James Morrison (Elizabeth Callison), Alexander and John Callison were all
listed on the same day
Jesse, Anthony and Isaac Callison were listed on the same day
