Joyce sent the following info. Does ANYONE have a clue as to who this William
might be. It was kinda exciting because I have been on the lookout for any
William who MIGHT be the son of either John or William Callison, sons of James
and Isabella. Then again, he might be from an unknown line of Callisons.
Certainly bears some investigation.
Callison, William File #155 Assignee: Smith, Oliver Tennessee Co. (formed
from Davidson Co 1788 - this was later divided into Montgomery and Robertson

Joyce also sent info on James, Can ANYONE identify these people. I would
assume that the first entry is for James Callison who married Mary Callison,
daughter of James and Isabella but not sure about the other one.

Whew, I might be able to sleep after all without worrying about this unknown
James. When you get to your papers, just keep me in mind. Guess the only thing
that we know for sure is that Absolom was NOT the son of William Sr and that
in some way he connects to a GILLESPIE family. Any Flacks marry into the
Gillespie line?? So we also have some others who used that name, William who
married MaryAnn Chapman, Elizabeth who married James Morrison, Hiram who married
Jane Donaldson, Samuel who went to Texas (might be connected to William who
married MaryAnn Chapman) and probably others that I can't think of cause my brain
is tired. ??????? are all of these people children of John Sr????????? Good
night all. Just something to cogitate on. Thanks Rena. Take care all
Marilyn
Rena, do you have the unit or company number that Robert and Benjamin
belonged to when in the war where they were killed -- Kentucky. I know you mentioned
a James that was in the same company that I am interested in. Also what years
were Robert and Benjamin born?? Is there any possibility that James could be
another sibling of Absolom. I would assume that a James who was in the War of
1812 was probably born earlier than 1793 or so. We have the James who married
Isabel Jones in 1806 Ohio. We have the James who died without mentioning any
heirs other than his sister, Elizabeth Callison Morrison, and was over age 45 in
1820 Virginia. These two James can probably be attributed to John Sr. and
William, sons of James and Isabella. Soooooooo if there is another James in an
early age group, this is a puzzle. I am so sorry that Clementine did not put her
grandparents names in the family Bible but they were possibly already
deceased. She did add her two deceased uncles though, Robert and Benjamin. Thanks for
sending the War of 1812 info when you get a chance. Take care.

Marilyn -
Robert was born about 1786 and Benjamin about 1789. These dates of
birth are based on the ages written in the Bible. The Bible,
incidentally, was in the possession of Clementine Callison's family but
(it is my understanding) was actually the Bible of Ann Flack Callison.
I could be wrong and will get out those papers, but that is what I have
always thought. After Clementine's death, family records show that her
brother Benjamin (who never married) lived with his mother, Ann Flack
Callison, and cared for Clementine's daughters. They are listed as a
family unit in the 1850 census. One of those daughters married an
Audrain and that is the family that had the Bible.
I have the service records of both Robert and Benjamin, but right now
they are packed since we are painting the inside of the house. I will
look this week-end and send you the information. It might take me more
than minute to put my hands on them, though. As I remember, they are
both listed as Kellerson and were in Dudley's 13th Regiment of the
Kentucky militia.
I believe the James I was interested in was a James Flack - not a
Callison. My interest was that perhaps he was a relative of Ann Flack.
I tracked him to Missouri - I believe his widow might have been Delia.
At any rate, I have his records as well. The interesting thing was that
they all joined up at the same time.

Mark, can you create a beginning family tree out of these notes on the master
Callison page. For those of you who need this site it is
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~markfreeman/callison.html
This is my best guess for children of Robert and Sidney Pharies Callison,
son of James Jr. and Ann Gillespie. I am still missing a son born 1830-1840. For
those of you who need concrete proof, I'm sorry that I cannot provide that
but this the best circumstantial that I have after Hours/days/months etc of
research. Mark if you can get it online, it will be easier for me to track what we
have. If anyone is willing to send the children of James and Sarah Craig,
they can be entered as another child of James and Ann Gillespie Callison along
with John who married Margaret Reneau with son, George and the two Callison
girls who married Morrison brothers in Lauderdale Co. Alabama. Again, Mark, please
just put a disclaimer that this is the best we have at the time. If anyone
can disprove any of this, please just jump right in. Take care all

Pat,
I have been working on the Morgan Co., Mo Callisons for the last few days.
The Callison cemetery in that counts shows the following
Wm. Callison, Sen.
died
April 1, 1839
aged 50 years
Mary,
Wife of Wm. Callison, Sen.
died
September 14, 1847
aged 60 years
Mary R,
Wife of Wm. Callison, Jr.
died
March 24, 1850
aged 33 yrs, 8 mos, 26 days
Infant Children
Son and Daughter of
Wm. and Mary R. Callison
born and died
March 24, 1850
Lousanah,
Daughter of
Wm. and Mary R. Callison
died
December 29, 1849
aged 11 yrs, 6 mos, 14 d’s.
This would be William SR and Mary Ann/AKA Marian Chapman Callison married
1804 Greenbrier Co., VA
I have tax records SOMEWHERE showing William Callison in Lincoln Co., KY in
1805. Absolom, son of ?, was in that county the earliest and then
Joseph, son of William and grandson of James and Isabella
and then this William, son of ?
John Callison Sr was in Greenbrier Co in 1803 and is in Bath Co. tax records
in 1804 with his son John Jr and with Alexander. John Sr. disappears from the
tax records in 1807 and John Jr. and Alexander both head to Ohio about 1809.
William, brother to John Sr. is lost to us between 1787 and 1806 when he
shows up in Gallia Co., Ohio but eventually goes to Kentucky where his son,
Joseph, was living. It is possible that he was in Virginia from 1787 to 1806 but
does not show up in any tax records.
They were the only two CALLISON surnamed people from the line of James and
Isabella in this area at the time
This person seems to be the same William who married Marian Chapman in 1804
1810 census Casey Co., Ky
William KELLOSON (? same one who married Marian Chapman)
3 males under 10 (probably 1805 (possibly James), 1807, 1809) and 2 males age
18-26 (1800-1810) and (1784-1792) ? William and a brother
plus females
William Cellison in Lincoln Co., Ky -- thought to be the one who married
Marian Chapman
3 males under the age of 10 (1810 - 1820) . Should be Absolom and
William and maybe SAMUEL
2 males age 10-16 (1804-1810) (1810 census had 3 in this age group ??? JAMES
1 male age 26-45 (- 1775-1794)-- 1810 census shows born 1784-1792
Note: to the best of my knowledge I only know of 2 sons for him -- William
and Absolom,
If true to Callison form, there should be a son, John. Maybe he died between
1810 and 1820
Note in 1820, there is a Richard CHAPMAN over the age of 45 on the same page.
William and his family have not been found in 1830. This is a BIG missing
link.
Now what do I know of William and Absolom, presumed sons of William and
Marian Chapman.
William Callison married to Polly (AKA Mary) Cooper 1837 Morgan Co., Mo.
Absolom Kellison married Mary Palmer 1837 Morgan Co., Mo . This would be William
Jr.
In 1840 Morgan Co., MO, they show up living next to each other in Morgan
Co., MO with an older female living with William, According to the cemetery
record, this should be Marian/Mary Ann and William Sr. has died
William Callison married Eliza Wilson 1850 Morgan Co., Mo.
1850 William was still there born 1814 Kentucky. married to Eliza with 3
children age 4-11 born Missouri. Sons named John and Thomas, He got 160 acres of
land in 1856. He also got land in 1837/1840/with Absolom getting the ajoining
land in 1843 -- listed as Kellison. Absolom was in the same county born 1818
Kentucky with children age 1-13 born Missouri. Two sons, Alonzo and Jabez
In 1860 William Morgan Co., MO census William says that he was born in
Tenneseee. with added sons, Henry, Arch and William. he has one slave house with a
black family with 5 children. He is listed as Kallison.
1860 Absolom is now in .Randolph Co., ARKANSAS listed as Kellerson. .
Children age 4 and under born Arkansas (adds son, William) and children 8 and above
born Missouri. Age 45 born Kentucky
Also a Jacob Kellison age 19 born MO living in a WILSON household. Absolom
has John age 19 born Mo living with him so it may be the same person living with
relative from Callison/Wilson marriage. This person is listed as John J and
fits the same age and birthplace as Jabez from 1850
1870 William Morgan Co., Mo living next to married son, John
Absolom not found but two of his children still in Randolph Co., ARKANSAS
however there was an Absolom did purchase land there in September 1870.
I also have this Absolom that I can't fit into the picture but might be the
same person. Anyway, this is the Morgan Co line as I see it for now. The James
and Samuel that fit into the picture for ages are the ones who went to Texas.
This is the only family that I have at this time with some unidentified
children from early census records. TAke care. Marilyn
Can anyone tell me all there is to know about the Callison/Kellison family in
Morgan Co., Missouri. This would be William and Absolom. William apparently
died there and Absolom went to Arkansas. Thanks for any help.
Marilyn
Hi all, Guess most of you knew this already but I just realized that two of
the children of Elizabeth Callison with all the children in Missouri in 1850
that I THINK is the widow and children of William Callison, oldest son of Moses
is living in Izard Co., Arkansas in 1870
William age 29 born Illinois is married with two children, Mary and Catherine
Cobbert age 35 born Illinois is married with no children -- 1835
1880 shows David Callison and family Izard Co., Arkansas born 1841 Illinois
with same age and named wife and children as William above. Guess he was David
William or William DAvid. Adds daughters Olly and Florence
1900 census Fulton Co., AR shows
Colbert B Callison born March 1835 Illinois, father born Virginia, mother
born Ohio, married to Elizabeth -- no children. Julia Caple Mother in law lives
with them
1900 Izard Co., AR
William Callison born March 1849 age 60 born Illinois, father Kentucky,
mother Ohio
Wife with him who has had 4 children, 3 living
Remember that in the 1850 census Elizabeth was living close to James Callison
born 1822 with wife Elen and daughter,Elizabeth. Census says born Kentucky
but who knows
In the same district and county were Mose and some of his married and
unmarried children. Hiram born 1820 Ohio, Matilda 1826 (lived between Moses and
Hiram), Caleb 1830 Ohio. On the other side of Moses was David HOLBERT born 1818 TN.
Is this a coincidence that Elizabeth named a son David and one COLBERD
Also this district between Elizabeth and Moses were 4 CAllison children,
Elizabeth age 12 and John 9 born Tn and Jesse 6 and Jasper 2 born Missouri living
with the Richardson family from TN
A long time ago, I found a death for a William Callison who I thought was the
husband of this Elizabeth but now am not sure of that. Anyone got any ideas
about that
Anyway in 1840 William, son of Moses had one son age 5-10 and one female 0-5.
I think it POSSIBLE that these children are Colberd born 1835 and Elizabeth
living with the Richardsons born about 1837 -- probably Illinois rather than
Tennessee and that after William died she could not take care of all of these
children so they are possibly living with a sister of hers or someone. Just a
thought.
DOTTIE, HELP. Take care all. Marilyn
My last unknown while working in Alabama, Tenneseee and Arkansas census
records. Lewis is thought to be son of Robert and Sidney Phares
3. Lewis W. and Elander 1850 Henderson TN He born 1826 AL 1860/ 1870
Clark, AR, 1880/ 1900 Saline AR/ Parents born VA and SC -- 1900 with second
wife and 11 year old Grandson, Ernest.
4. Robert M 1856 TN
4. E,L 1859 (f) AR not listed in 1870
4 Mary 1865 ( not listed in 1870 but listed as daughter in 1880)
4. Lewis William 1862 AR
Who is D. Clem Callison male age 24 born Tn living with them in 1860 (1836)
-- the unknown male born 1835-1840 listed in the household of Robert Callson,
Lauderdale Co. 1840.
Take care all

OK now does anyone claim this family group. William R. Callison, son of
Robert and Sidney Pharies Callison was living in Weakley Co., Tn also.
1870 census Weakley Co., Tn
John J. Callison born TN 1847 married with 2 children Weakley TN. Benjamin
Callison born 1851 Tennessee living with him
Does anyone claim these people. William R. had a son named John but he is
John S. born 1842 and with his own listing in 1870.

John J. was listed on a page between two pages including other children of
William R. Callison
I am trying to create a family tree (Best Guess) for Robert and Sidney
Pharies Callison and came across the following people living in Arkansas. Dottie, I
know that some of Moses family came to Arkansas and by way of thinking, more
than we originally thought. I think the Colberd is in Moses line but that is
another story. Rena, did any of Absolom's pass through Arkansas and I know that
one from Texas got married in Arkansas so here are my problem children for
today. One line (Lewis) from Robert and Sidney Pharies Callison settled in
Arkansas also (from my calculations)/ They may not have all be children of Robert
but seem to be emuerated in the census with him and most named children, Robert.
Is this one of the missing sons of Robert. 1870 census Clark AR
Alexander Kallison, born 1820 Alabama wife Caledonia -- same page as
Lewis
4. Mary 1850 TN
4. Robert 1853 AR
4. John W. 1859
4. Martha 1861
4. Ellen 1865 TN
Does anyone else claim this Alexander???
Could not find Robert Calliston in 1830 so did a search on ancestry with
Robert, Lauderdale Co., AL and found who I think is the same person (it looked
like they had crossed the double LLs so the index had him listed as Cattiston

I believe that John Gillespie Callison was married to Elsie Scott, not George Callison. There was a license issued for J.G. Callison and Elsie Scott in Gonzales C., Texas. They were married 4-21-1870. I know that in her book on Wilson County Karen Mac Smith said George Callison was married to George, but one of John Callison ggranddaughters says her grandmother was Elsie Scott, and that is what I have always been told. She also says that Hiram Callison was a son of James Crockett Callison, not Samuel, but he was born before James was married, and died when he was three years old. She attributes a son Anson to Samuel and says he died as an infant but I have never heard of an Anson. If John married his brother's widow I think her name would have been Callison, unless she took back the Scott name.
George Callison was just 19, married a few months, when he was killed in the Sutton - Taylor feud, as were many people before it was over. They tried to kill Tom Callison and his brother-in-law but they were able to escape.

Does anyone have any major disagreement with the idea that John Gillespie
Callison born 1796 as found in the 1860 census Karnes Co., Texas is the same John
G. who married Margaret Reneau? This John was age 30-40 in the 1830 census.
I'm just trying to simplify my thinking here and eliminate possibilities
Now does anyone have any major problem with the idea that the male under age
5 listed with John and Margaret in 1830 Alabama is George W. who married Sarah
Hackett. Sarah and a Callison child were living with John in 1860 census.
I may have this totally confused but I don't know of any other couple who
were married previoius to his birth in 1796 to put him with.
And the arguments that this John G is the son of James and Ann Gillespie
Callison is
1. Date of birth 2 years after their marriage
2. They had known son, John
3. Known son of James and Ann was also in Alabama (Robert)
So in my tentative family file, until I learn otherwise, I am going to put
1. James and Ann Gillespie
2. John and Margaret Reneau
3. George W. and Sarah Hackett
2. James and Sarah Craig
3. Need names of children
2. Robert and Sidney Pharies/Faries married 1816
3. W. Robert and ?. He was born about 1818
3. Lewis and ?. He was born about 1826 Alabama
3. George W. and ?. He was born about 1834 Alabama
3. Richard and ? He was born about 1840 Alabama
and take them all out of my muddled thought processes for now. In addition, I
have the two Callison girls who married the Morrison boys in Alabama in the
1820s.
These children were probably listed with John and Margaret in the 1830
census. The next batch of marriages were in the 1850's so I don't know if they were
Margarets or not. These may not be either. James BOX was the JP for Katherine

OK so the question is --- Who was the father of William. The two best
possibilities are William and John, children of James and Isabell.
So let's suppose that William (the younger) died between 1830 and 1840 and
his children spread out to other areas -- some to Mo, some to Alabama and maybe
some to TN. You should have to go through TN to get to Alabama. John Gillespie
Callison was already in Alabama by 1830. HOWEVER, John is too old to be a
child of William and Marian Chapman who did not get married until 1804 or so.
Theorectically, William and John, sons of James and Isabella should both have
had sons named William since so many of the early family used William, James
and John for their sons. This William is the only early one THAT WE KNOW ABOUT
except for William J. who returned to Augusta Co and remained there. He was
not born until 1791 about 8 years after this William. John Callison, son of
James and Isabella was older than William so following that line of thought, this
William would be son of John and William J. would be son of William. PURE
SPECULATION since we don't have a clue here.
So if this William is son of John, he married in Greenbrier while John was in
Bath Co but since John had just left Greenbrier for Bath Co, he could have
already had his eye on Marian and she was living in Greenbrier. My John Jr was
born in 1769 and this William probably about 1784-- not unheard of. I have
thought he was the son of William purely because he seemed to follow Joseph
Callison, known son of William to Kentucky but the families seemed to be
interchangable.
Absolom was born in 1777 -- Rena -- does that Bible have any record of other
siblings of Absolom or just of the two who died. Is this a possibility? If he
is connected in any way with Absolom, he cannot be a son of William Sr.
because Absolom had a brother, Robert, who died and William Sr. had a son, Robert,
who lived.
Back to Gillespie names, we have
Elizabeth who I think is daughter of John used the name
Absolom, ??????? son of John for arguments sake
John who married Margaret Reneau-- I still think he is son of James and Anne
Gillespie Callison.
John, son of James and grandson of James and Ann Gillespie Callison
I think Hiram used the Gillespie name also -- anyone else that we know about?
Ok for these,
Elizabeth used the name Alexander and Absolom
Absolom used the name Alexander
Alexander -- thought to be son of John Sr., used the name Absolom
Moses used the name Absolom and Hiram
John Jr did not have enought boys but had grandchildren, Moses and Absolom
William who married Marian Chapman used the name Absolom
Can anyone identify the children of Margaret Reneau Callison in the 1830
census. There is one male in the age group as Samuel but none in the age group as
James.
IF John in Alabama was the son of James and Ann Gillespie Callison and
IF William (the younger one) was the son of John Sr. and
IF SAmuel was the son of William THEN
Samuel and John in Alabama were cousins.
This is all too deep for me but I would certainly think it probable that
William who married Marian Chapman would have a son named James and he has quite a
few unaccounted for males.
Did C in Samuel's name stand for Chapman. Is there any Chapman/Crockett c
onnection;
Extending the equation out a little bit --------- Was John Sr. married to
someone with last name of Gillespie, possibly an Elizabeth Gillespie who might
have been the daughter of an Absolom or Alexander Gillespie. Something to think
about. Just have to find the missing links
Were these other people who used the name Alexander or Gillespie all children
of John Sr . Maybe the relationship between Samuel and John in Alabama was a
closer GILLESPIE relationship instead of a CALLISON relationship. Ann was the
daughter of Thomas Gillespie so who were his siblings. There WAS an Alexander
Gillespie in Beverly Manor but I have no clue who he is or anything about him.
Need to fill in birthdates for James who died 1827, John Jr., Elizabeth,
Absolom, Moses, Alexander, William and Hiram to see if it is even plausible that
they were all children of John Sr. I know that family history has Moses as son
of William but just along with the name connection right now. So it is late,
my brain is tired but I am afraid to stop my train of thoughts because I might
never get it back again.
A little background on Hiram. He was probably an illigitimate child of a
Callison and a Baldwin. He apparently lived with James and Isabella as did John
Sr.s daughter, Isabelle. He was in the care of Robert for 16 years when he
married which was 16 years after the death of James so guess he got married about
1805 or so. Anyway, just keep Samuel and James in the back of your minds for
children of William and Marian Chapman Callison FOR NOW.
Take care
Marilyn
Joyce, It seems possible/probable that your Samuel and the James who was on
the ship with him. I think this James may very well be the one who married Jane
Sargent in 1841 and seems connected with Samuel by living in nearby counties.
(Do I have this info correct?) However, IF this relationship is that they are
brothers, they are probably NOT siblings of John Gilliespie Callison simply
because there is already a James who married Sarah Craig attributed to James
and Ann Gillespie Callison UNLESS John Gillespie Callison was not their son. Is
this making any sense whatsoever. We KNOW we have two James in Texas.
One married in 1816 and probably born not long after 1794 when James Jr. and
Anne married and then James born about 1805.
This is a long dissertation to show the possibility that James and Samual may
POSSIBLY the sons of William and Marian Chapman. They had sons that I cannot
account for, who fit the age group for Samuel and James. Just something to
keep in mind.
The early James that we know about EXCLUDING the younger James Callison and
his son, James Jr who came here later than our James
1. Are James, the father of our line. He had a son James and 3 other sons and
each of those is thought to have a son James.
2.James, Jr. his son who married Anne Gilllespie -
3.His son, James who married 1816 TN probably born about 1795 and to Texas
where he died 1838 (or so)
3. James, son of Robert and grandson of James and Isabella, born 1793 went to
MO
3.James who died 1827 Greenbrier Co. that I think is son of John Sr.-- no
children
3. James who married 1806 Isabel Jones, Gallia Co., OH and to IN son of
William
James who married Jane Sargeant in TX born ? Ky and probably the same James
born 1805. Could be brother to Samual born 1813
The earliest UNKNOWNS that I know of are Absolom born 1777, Hiram born
--------, Alexander married 1805 but left a will with no James or Samuel. Also
William who married Marian Chapman about 1805 then to Kentucky.
Now of Interest is that Absolom and Hiram were both in Kentucky although I
THINK that Hiram was married after 1805 when our unknown James was born.
These are about our only pickings from what we know now. Samuel (who may be a
brother to the unknown James) named a son John Gillespie as did Absolom. Any
other coincidences with Absolom?? I know that James had a descendant
Alexander as did Absolom. ABsolom was sometimes referred to as Kellison as were the
other Kentucky residents.

Where is Absolom?
Remember Samuel had a son named Hiram didn't he? All of you are so much ahead of me that I have no idea who most of these people are but I am busy with the printer. As soon as you have something on the Callisons i get busy. I am so anxious to find out about the Texas Callisons because my children and grandchildren could care less but I know when I am gone they will will think about it and want to know. I know I am sorry I didnt pay attention and now I would give anything to have my grandmother here to tell me all the things I would like to know and she knew all about the Texas Callisons. Keep up the good work it is just great. mary
Marilyn,
you have some things wrong on the time line of Samuel.
He was born in 1813, Ky, Tenn, or Al., although most people say Tenn. He came to Texas, probably in 1834, and applied for land, which he received the title to in 1838. He was a married man when he came to Texas, according to his entrance certificate. I can not find it at the present but I have seen what it says, Samuel Callison, married. He was able to apply for a league and a labor of land because he was a married man. This means he was probably married in 1834, but unknown where or exactly when. We thought he was married in Blount Co., Ala. but no record.
He received land in Houston Co., Texas where he live until about 1851 when he moved to Gonzales Co., Texas. He lived there until he died in ca 1873. He is buried in the Big Sandies Cemetery in Gonzales Co, Texas. The Big Sandies used to be a large cemetery and it has many graves in it. It is now located in a pasture close to Dewville, Texas. Several of Samuel's grandchildren and some of his children are buried there. His grave is unmarked, but there is a big red sandstone rock that we assume to be his grave as it is between the children of JJ. and Louisa Callison Treadwell. J.J. Treadwell was a rock mason and made many of the tombstones in that part of the country. He made beautiful tombstones for his daughters, Ida and Ada, for Hiram Callison, and for the other three grandchildren of Samuel buried in Big Sandies, but he did not make one for Samuel.
Samuel Callsion married Ida Orlena Box, parents unknown. Unknown where they married or exactly when, but married by 1834 when they came to Texas, The first known child was James Crockett Callison, born 1838, Houston Co., Texas The second child was John Gillsepie Callison, born 1840, Houston Co., Texas, the third was Louisa Isabelle Callison, born 1842, married John James Treadwell, son of Shelly Booth Treadwell and Sarah Culbertson, died Nov. 11, 1896, buried in the Sayers Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas, and Viney (Lavinia?) born 1846. Emma Treadwell Spear, granddaughter of Samuel Callison, said in a letter that Uncle Crock was 8, Uncle John was 6, Mama was 4, and Aunt Viney was 2 when Grandma (Ida Orlena) died. That would make her death 1846 in Houston Co., Texas. It is unknown where she is buried, but possibly the Box-Beeson Cemetery in Houston Co., Texas. Unfortunately, it was mostly destroyed as it became farmland and the cows trampled the stones. He then married Martha Y!
arbrough,
whose sister was married to a Box, and possibly Sam's sister-in-law. Their first child, Samuel Callison, was born 1848.
In Dec., 1835, Samuel Callison served in the Texas Army and fought at the Seige of Bexar in San Antonio, which is the first battle of the Alamo. He was discharged from the army and joined again in April 1836 where he fought at San Jacinto. His family was living in Houston County and Anderson county while he was in the army of Texas.
He sold his land and moved to Gonzales Co., Texas in 1851. This is not an adjoining county to Houston County. It is many miles away. Houston County is in East Texas, while Gonzales is in South-Central Texas. While rereading old letters, I read one where Cameron Worthy wrote to me in the 1980s that she thought the James Callison that was lived in Fayette Co., Texas was Samuel's brother as she recalled being told about Uncle Finn going to Fayette Co. to visit his cousins who were Alex Callison's children or grandchildren.
Samuel Callison and Martha Yarbrough had nine children, six boys and three girls. He died about 1873, but she died much later and is buried in the Leesville Cemetery, Leesville, Texas, Gonzales Co. Samuel lived in Belmont, which is very close to the line where Guadalupe, Gonzales, and Wilson Counties join, so some of the information on him is in the Guadalupe County courthouse, and some is in the Gonzales County courthouse.
Do you want the names of all of the children and who they married, etc? The more I look at this the more I believe that John Gillespie Callison was a brother. or Sam and James
While looking at some of the info I have today, I found a page that was from LDS Film #1035761 that shows that George Callison, from Texas, married Sarah Hackett, of Villemont Twp., by Richmond Peeler, JP. Witnesses were John Larkey and E. Maxwell. That proves that it was the same George who was in Houston Coun ty in 1850.
Cameron wrote to me and said she copied some info on a file from the LDS 907975, and the other number is F43979. This has to do with Blount Co. land and property records.
John G. Callison was deputy Feb. 17, 1832. John Slaton was sheriff, Feb. 28, 1829. John Box was a commissioner, Stephen Box, & William Cornelius, Elliott& Bizilel Harris, George Roberts, Benjamin Easley, William Reno (Reneau?), Henry McPhasin & Robertr Vaughn were all commissioners in 1820. Note the George Roberts. He served with Samuel Callison in San Augustine Volunteers. With Samuel J.K. Roberts signed this land instrument. I would assume from this that he had something to do with Samuel, possibly knew him when he was possibly in Ala. Did he live with John Callison? Is he kin to them??? I need to order the film myself and look at it. For some reason I never have.
Hope this has not muddied up the waters even more. The San Augustine that Cameron is referring to is where they joined to fight in the Siege of Bexar. (That is pronounced Bear for those of you not used to Texas English).
I have the papers on John Gillespie Callison where he got his land. It says that he applied in 1838, and got his land title in 1841. He doesn't show in the 1840s Texas census, and he is not on the 1850 that I have found. Need to look for strange spellings, as you all know.

To add place of birth, Just take it from census if not known otherwise. For
instance if Samuel was in the same census for 1850 and 1860 then PROBABLY the
children born in those years would have been born in that county. We need to
know census years for him from 1850 to his death.
Add date for battle of Jacinto
Add census for 1850, when and where
Then we'll factor in where he intersects with other Callison families -- like
who else is buried in Sandy's cemetery??
Rena, did the bible of Clementine just add siblings and children of Absolom.
I am wondering if possibly at least the oldest of his sibling who died in War
of 1812 might have been married with sons, James and Samuel. Also what years
are they thought to have been born?? or were they too young to have children
born in 1805. Just wondered if the bible gave nieces and nephews etc.
So far, Samuel certainly does seem connected in some manner with James and
Ann Gillespie Callison but the connection with the James on the ship kinda rules
that idea out since there was another James attributed to them. Are we
getting anywhere or just chasing ghosts. I am afraid it is the latter but will just
keep forging ahead. Take care. Marilyn
