Notes for MATTIE CORINNE GRUBBS:
When Corinne Mattie Grubbs was a young child, she lost her mother. When she
was four years old, her father remarried. Corinne, Charles (her brother) and
her younger sister, Zelma, were sent away to live with other relatives.
The Ashton family legally adopted Zelma. Later on, they decided to raise
Corinne, Charles, and Ewing (cousin to Corinne, Charles, and Zelma). The
Ashtons were devout Seventh Day Adventists, and their influence on Corinne
resulted in her also becoming a devout Seventh Day Adventist.
After Corinne's divorce from Percy Morton Hebb, she married William Glisson.
Bill was also a Seventh Day Adventist.

Notes for PERCY MORTON HEBB:
Percy Morton Hebb was born June 8, 1900 in Nova Scotia. While a young child
in Bridgewater, he contracted either polio or spinal meningitis during an
epidemic. In that day, the doctors would advise putting ice on the patient.
Many people died. Percy's mother refused to do so and chose to apply hot wet
towels instead. Percy said that the wet towels felt good. He recovered from
the disease.
As was his father and many other members of the Hebb family, Percy showed
good entrepreneurial and engineering skills. He would invent devices to
increase work efficiency. He owned and operated his own dairy, Seminole
Dairy, prior to the Great Depression.

Notes for CHARLES HERBERT "CHARLIE" HEBB:
Charles Herbert Hebb enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. He was
stationed on a ship in the South Pacific. Toward the end of the war, he was
stationed on the island of Saipan which was in the forward staging area of
the upcoming invasion of Japan. If the invasion had taken place, it could
have cost him his life. However, his life was spared when the first atomic
bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 5, 1945 (August 6, 1945 across the
International Dateline). August 5, 1945 was also Charles' nineteenth
birthday.
Notes for JUANITA ELIZABETH FOWLER:
Juanita Fowler Hebb is the descendant of several prominent DeKalb County,
Georgia families such as the Fowlers, Towers, Jones, and other families.
Some of the prominent Virginia families from whom she is descended are the
Masons, Upshaws, Wells, Frenches, Nicholsons, Fowkes, and others. Some of
her forefathers fought in Confederate Armed Forces in the War Between the
States.
Juanita attended Whiteford Avenue Elementary School and Ed S. Cook Elementary
in Atlanta. She also attended Eastside Elementary, later known as Wesley
Chapel Elementary. She attended Hoke Smith Junior High and Southwest DeKalb
High School. Juanita graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens with
a B.S. in Elementary Education.
Juanita worked for the DeKalb County Board of Education as a teacher and
Media Specialist. She taught at various schools during her career, including
Leslie J. Steele Elementary, Knollwood Elementary, and Rowland Elementary.
She also taught at Lake Shipp Elementary School in Winter Haven, Polk County,
Florida, USA.
Towers High School was named for Juanita's third great-grandfather, Capt.
William Towers.
