Here's my Calais information:
It is said that the immigrant was Jean Calais who was born in France. He
married Elizabeth McCoy (McCay) - family lore calls her the "Scotch Girl".
It is said that Jean left France in 1685 to escape the persecution of the
Huguenots. Settled in Virginia - Norfolk or Portsmouth.
Children of Jean and Elizabeth are:
Unknown
Henry
William
John
Louis
Elizabeth
Lucy
Anne
Here we believe that we may have lost a generation because the next "for
sure" Calais sighting we have is

Hi Fran, it's been said that Callis is one of the many surnames derived
from Caleys in Picardy in northeastern France; principal port: Calais;
adjoins Normandy on the east. Sometimes people spelled according to the
way it sounded -- often spelling the same word several ways. Which why
there are so many variations.
I have info on some Calais names, if you're looking for anyone in
particular? Maybe I can help?
