John:
I saw your message on rootsweb and the reply that Roland sent you. I checked
the book "The Callis Family in England and the USA, 1096-1998" and Roland is
correct in that the names you mentioned are not in the book. I gather that
you live in Michigan and your branch of the Callises probably came through the
Northeastern part of the US from England in the 1700s or so. There is a
chapter in the book which contains Callises from the Kegworth, Leicestershire area
of England. Another chapter pertains to Callises from the Quordon Parish,
Leicestershire area of England. It appears that they migrated to Pennsylvania,
Maryland, New York, Utah and I assume Michigan. You could probably add another
family line to what we currently have.
Some time ago, I was in contact with a Jane McLean in England [see info copy]
and we sent her one of the CDs. It was one that I made and she had
difficulty getting it to open, but was finally successful after a friend did some work
on it. I don't normally make the CDs. There are two other contacts who do
that, one being the programmer who developed the CD. Helena Callis McGinnis is
the one who worked on the Callis genealogy for about 30 years. Unfortunately,
she passed away a couple of years ago. Before that, she had asked me to
coordinate the preparation of a CD from the hardback book [700-pages plus about
130 photos] which I did along with volunteers from Georgia, Utah, NC, and Texas.
We scanned the book and sent to the programmer in Texas who prepared the
final CD. It is our intention to revise the CD at some time in the future and I
have agreed to continue the collection of Callis information from whomever
desires that such information be added to the CD. The CD duplicates the book
except for some format changes.
I'm sure that your family genealogy would add to the information we already
have and make it available to others. You could just send me an email with a
genealogy list and I would retain until we decide that a revised CD is worth
the effort. I really haven't collected sufficient additional information to
undertake that effort so far. Should you desire one of the CDs you can contact
either Dnevil or mcallis [copied above].
