Hello Listers,
I am looking for relatives of Michael CALLINAN born about 1790,
Co. Clare, Ireland. Griffiths Valuation lists him as leasing
several plots of land as well as a dwelling from one Gregory Martin
in the parish of Rathborney, Gragan (East & West.) The family also
lived in nearby Ballyvaghan before immigrating.
Known children are:- Patrick, Catherine, Michael, James, John, Mary,
Thomas and Anthony born between 1834 - 1854 in the above areas.
Michael (Snr.) died about 1863 and is said to have been buried in
the old Rathborney churchyard. The ruins of the church can still be
seen today and close by there are a number of Callinan headstones, some of
which I have photographs of.
After Michael died, Mary (nee NOONAN) his wife and 7 children immigrated
to Victoria, Australia at various times -- before 1870.
John our ancestor (son of Michael above) married Bridget O'Neil 1871
in Vic., Australia and then moved to New Zealand 1874. His other brothers
and sisters (except Patrick the eldest) stayed in and around
Victoria and no doubt produced large families there.
Patrick had already married Mary Murphy in Co. Clare, Ireland and decided
not to follow his siblings. He and his wife are also buried in the old Rathborney
churchyard.
Would love to hear from anyone who think they may have a connection
to any of the above.
Kind regards,
Barrie Callinan.
