To Barrie Callinan-
I don't know if our Callinan's are related, but it's worth enquiring.
My ggfather Dennis CALLINAN was born in 1791 in Ireland, and according to
"oral history" in the family came from Cork. I really don't believe it, as
I
can find no confirmation of any kind. He emigrated in 1836/37 to the United
States with wife Catherine (maiden name unknown). After a few years spent in
the Boston area, where the first children were born, he went on to Michigan,
Oakland County, where he purchased 120 acres in Highland Township, and there
lived, raised his children, and died in 1850.
Shortly after arriving in Michigan, he shortened his name to CALLAN, and the
family thereafter was known by that name. The farm remained in our family
until the 1940's when it was sold to the state to be part of the Highland
State Recreation Area.
From the naming of your Michael's sons, it would appear that
Michael's father
was named Patrick (if he followed the usual Irish patronymic
pattern). My
Dennis, on the other hand, named his first son Jeremiah. However, I think
the name Callinan is rare enough that I won't ignore any chance. Dennis'
other 2 sons were John and Dennis. His 4 daughters were Hannah, Catherine,
Mary and Johanna.
I would be interested in hearing from you if you think there is any link.
