I was much cheered to find messages on the Callinan List. I too had begun to
believe it was a ghost!
I am researching Dennis CALLINAN, b 1791 in Ireland, d.1850 in Highland
Tnship, Oakland Co., Michigan. Wife Catherine (maiden name unk., possibly
MURRY), lst child Hannah b. Boston. Dennis found on ship's manifest in 1837.
Family removed to Oakland Co. in 1838. My family oral history had him
coming from Cork, but he sailed from Liverpool. Griffith's has dozens of
CALLINAN's in Cork and variations. Dennis' name was shortened to CALLAN soon
after arrival in Michigan.
Seven more children were born in Michigan- Jeremiah, John, Catherine, Mary,
Johanna (my gmother), Dennis and Margaret. Dennis and Catherine are buried
in Pioneer Cemetery, Union Lake Rd., Union Lake, MI.
Does anyone have CALLINAN/CALLAN in their ancestry? Most anxious to pin down
Dennis' birthplace in Ireland.
Many thanks. Mary
