I am interested in finding the descendents of John J. Callicott and wife
Ann H. J. Callicott of DeKalb and Wilson Counties, Tn. I was a Callicott but
don't think this man was a close relative. When I was a child my father bought
a farm (1947) in Wilson County as a weekend summer place on the Cumberland
River ( now Old Hickory Lake ) We spent every week-end there all summer long,
for years. Sort of camping, electricty but no running water. Daddy said when
they did the title search a John Callicott had once owned the farm. Census
records show this would have been in 1870 and 1880. I just want to tell John
J. Callicott's descendents I know all about his delightful two room log
house, with attic space above each room, with a stairway in the corner of
each room. None of the rooms were connected, above or below. There was a
double sided stone fire place in the center between the two rooms. At
sometime, someone had added a clapboard room with a dogtrot in the center to
form an L shaped house and had put an L screened in back porch on the house. I
know this was added because the original cistern was under the porch. Out
building's of course included the privy and a barn. It was high on a bluff
overlooking the Cumberland River.
