I wrote the following to John T. Callicotte and thought the list might like
the information as a follow up on what I had written earlier.
Now for my research on John J. Callicott. I suspect he is a son of
Paschel, just because of the locality.
John J. Callicott (spelled Callicoat in his marriage record) married
Ann H. J. Smith in Dekalb County on October 13, 1854. Who I assume is his
sister Lucy Jane "Callicutt" married Wingate T. Robinson on September 21, 1854
in Dekalb County. John J. Callicott and Wingate T. Robinson and wife Lucy J.
were living next door to each other in Dekalb county at the time of the 1860
census. John J. was 27 years old, wife Anna H. 24, daughter Henrietta S 5 and
And William F. 4. Lucy J. Robinson was 25, daughter Mary E 5 and son Beverly
W. 3.
In 1860 John J. owned what appears to be a family of Negroes, a male age
32, female 22, male 17, female 6, female 4, female 2. W.T Robinson, once again
listed as next door owned a male 26, female 15, male 7 and male 6.
In 1870 John J. Callicott age 37 is in Wilson County with wife's name as
May (but in 1880 it is Mrs. Ann H. J. again) age 32, Willie 13, Henrietta 15.
In 1880 John age 47, is in Wilson County, wife Mrs. Ann H. J. 42,
daughter Vera S. 9 . In the mean time Henrietta "Calliot" has married A. H.
Thompson in Wilson County on Oct. 1, 1873 by A. G. Haggard, M. G. (Minister of
the Gospel).
In 1880 both W. F Callicott and sister "Etta" Thompson are living back
in Dekalb County, with only one house between them, and that a black family.
W. F. age 25 has wife Emmie age 22 and son Floyd age 11/12 born in June. A.
H. Thompson age 35 has wife Etta 24, daughter Estel age 6 .
There was a Susan Hendricks ( Hendrickson in 1880) living with John
Callicott, age 33 and 43, in 1870 and 1880. I have found no connection so far
between her and John J. or his wife Ann H.J.
There were several blacks by the name of Callicott in Dekalb County
in 1870 and 80 and at least one in Wilson County. Dekalb borders Wilson on the
east.
