I want to thank all of you that helped me over the past 2 days on figuring
out what was wrong with a link in my email messages. Everyone took valuable
time out to try and put up with error messages and then responding to tell
me what was working and what wasn't. I know how valuable your time is and my
heartfelt thanks go to each and everyone you. There was about 30 people that
responded and that goes to prove that there is people out there that will
help if they can.
So, let you know what happened. I use MSIE 4.0 with Outlook Express and it
has options of 4 different languages as loaded languages. UTF-7, UTF-8, User
Defined, and Western Alphabet. The problem occurs with those that didn't use
MSIE 4.0. Certain characters are translated differently and sometimes
doesn't translate to what I thought I sending but in code. Naturally, the
link won't work in that case because the browser reads the code as
characters and doesn't translate.
Solution, if you use MSIE 4.0 DON'T use UTF-7 when you write any messages,
UTF-8 and Western Alphabet seemed to work for everyone.
If you get a link and it doesn't work and in the link you see AH4 preceded
with + and followed by an - that is the code for ~ (tilde, little squiggle
line). So delete the the 5 characters AH4, +, - and replace with ~, then the
link should work.
For those of you that said you couldn't access the GENDEX links, that isn't
a problem with the mail links, that one is on me. I have those links in
place for when Genmatch adds the databases to the Genmatch system. That
normally takes a couple of weeks. I know, why put a link in a page that
doesn't exist? Is prior planning a reasonable excuse?
Again, I want to thank all of you that helped. If you ever need any help
from me let me know and I'll see what I can do!
