Bill,
I really don't know when they got married, the best I can tell you is from
the 1820 Clark Co., IN Washington Twp. census, p. 26. Odum & Rhoda had 3
sons under 10, 1 daughter under 10, one daughter 10-15. They were 26-44
years old themselves.
In 1830 they were in Jennings Co., IN in Campbell twp. with 1 son 5-10 years
old, 2 sons 10-15 years old, 1 daughter 5-10 and they were both 40-50.
In 1840, they had a son 15-20 and they were both 50-60 years old, still in
Jennings Co.
I believe one son was Merand, and I know one son was Robert. Robert is my
direct ancestor who married Rachel McGuire in Ripley Co., IN. Robert was on
the same page as Odum in 1840.
I also think they had a daughter named Dicey.
I can't find a marriage for them. Odum's father (we think) was Robert
Hooker who from what I understand went to Scott Co., IN in about 1808 from
Randolph Co., NC.
Odum received two patents in Jennings Co., IN. One had an issue date of
1838 and the other had an issue date of 1845. However, Odom had passed away
about 1842. (This I don't understand unless he had a son named Odum also.
I found that Odum & Rhoda is in the Early Landowners in Jennings Co. D 488.
I haven't been able yet to read or see these land records.
I do have his probate that was started in 1842 and finished in 1845. His
household goods were all sold including quilts, kitchen utencils & such, so
I assume that Rhoda also died about 1842.
I also think that maybe Rhoda was from NC. If Dicey was their daughter, I
found that the name of Dicey was in the Calicott family. Also, My Robert
named a daughter Dicey, and a son Odom.
My Robert was born in 1817 in IN. Robert's wife who was a McGuire also had
Calicott in her family tree, they intermarried quite a lot it seems.
I did find today, that a William Calicott had died in Ripley Co. This of
course could be one that was connected with the McGuires and not Rhoda.
Anyway, that's about all I have on them. I just found for sure that Robert
was their son when he applied for a marriage license in 1883 in Saunders
Co., NE and on that it said his parents were Odum Hooker and Roda Calicott.
I was elated to find that as I strongly suppected that his father was Odum.
I hope this helps you in finding information on them. Keep me informed
please and thank you very much.
Linda

Hi Linda
Saw your inquiry on Rhoda Callicott. My wife, Bette Calicut and I have
been
researching the Callicott lines for 45 years. Unfortunately I have
no
record of a Rhoda Callicott that married an Odum Hooker.
When you say they married in early 1800's is that like 1800-1805 or maybe
1810-15?
Reason I ask is that I am trying to estimate a birth date for her so I can
possibly place her with one of the Callicott families in IN. First guess
is
she is daughter of a John Callicott NC,TN,IN.
Would appreciate any further details on this couple that might help me
place
them.
Bill

Odum died about 1842. I think that Rhoda or Roda also died about that
time
because in Odum's probate it listed the sale of their personal
property
and
everything including forks & knives were sold, so I assume that
Rhoda died
about the time he did.
