This info on Dorothy Calcotte or Lymbry was posted by a Harris family researcher, Paul

Dorothy is listed as the only heir of George Calcotte (who died owning 100 acres in the
Corporation of Charles City) in early Virginia. I've always been curious about this
Calcotte connection. Does anyone else have any thoughts?
Sincerely,

Subject: Dorothy Calcotte or Lambrey/Lamby?
My thoughts on this person is she may very well be a Lymbry. I have looked in vain to
find Dorothy used as
a given name for the Calcotte family.
The Calcotte or Colcoloffe families in Ireland used the name Caeser thru many 100's of
years but
not much anywhere else.
Colcoloffe is found near the London area. George Coleclough born c 1581 was son of Mathew
and
Margaret Bennett. This Mathew was born c 1542 in London area and was son of
Richard and Eleanor Draycote. That is not to say this is the correct
family either.
Taking a fresh look at Dorothy and Sgt John Harris.
1) They immediately put up in London area at the home of Edward Lymbrey (lime
house)
This is a close relative, perhaps Edward was her father? We know Edward
was
a mariner.
2) A John Lymbrey was the Captain of the ship "John & Sarah"
(another mariner in the family)
This is proven by the Court testimony found on page 34 of
http://ftp.rootsweb.com//pub/usgenweb/va/york/court/misc0002.txt
Info is about his friend George Lee and a young John Symonds a
passenger.
3) Dorothy was the only heir of George Calcotte (who died owning 100 acres in
the
Corporation of Charles City) Note: John Harris owned 200 acres in same
place.
Dorothy could not have been the widow of this George but possibly could
have been
a daughter? Just what her relationship was escapes me, perhaps it was
through
a marriage like her mother/sister was the wife of George and had
predeceased George?
Information is found among other places in the Complete Book of Emigrants,
1607-1776
in the year 1626. This only appears to have affected 11 Planters.
27 Aug 1638 the George Calcotte 100 acres were sold by Dorothy and John
(to whom was it sold and is this Sgt John Harris)? The below attempts to
clarify the
situation that it was not Sgt John Harris but rather John Baker the
husband at the
time of Dorothy
John Harris died in Charles City County before October 14, 1638, for on
that date Francis Derrick makes a bill of Sale to Richard Johnson as follows:
"Whereas John Baker and Dorothy his wife, daughter of the late deceased Serjeant
(sic) John Harris, have by order of Court at Henrico the 27th day of August last,
surrendered unto me, Captain Francis Derrick all right and title which they claim under
the dividend of land belonging to the late deceased George Calcott, which was given to the
said Dorothy by the last will and testament of the said Calcott as by the surrender in the
said court and by the patent and will recorded at James Cittie
4) Son of Dorothy was Thomas Harris (1614-1672)
Thomas Harris 20 Oct 1652 comes into some property by Patent?
1656 a deed from Thomas Harris & Alice of the above to Major John
Bond (190 acres)
13 Jan 1663 there is a sale of a Corn Mill from Major John Bond
(Brother-In-Law)
to Thomas Harris.
2 May 1667 deed of Corn Mill from Thomas Harris to Giles Driver
4a) Another possible son of Dorothy was Robert Harris born c 1626 in VA
Robert appears to have married UNKNOWN and had issue:
Martha Harris who married John Jennings.
Mary Harris who married Anthony Spiltimber.
4b) John Harris born 1624 may have died soon after birth and another John may
have been born c 1627 as his replacement. In any event I don't have
much on this.
5) (Source: Virginia Historical Magazine, Vol. 25, p. 343.)
Dorothy is refered to as d/o Edward "of the House of" Lymbry
6) It would appear that with all the mariner's having ships during this time
frame
there wouldn't be a problem for Dorothy widow of Sgt John to go most
anywhere she wanted. Her birthdate is not clear but assumed to be 1590
Could she not have been born as early as 1576-1580 era?
As to an Alice or Peter I have no knowledge about.
We have a soup sandwich here to figure out.
At this time I have not put much of this together.
Cheers,
Paul
