In the Sunday 8/22/99 NY Daily News there was an article in the travel
section on Callaway Gardens from the Sun-Sentinel.
The article stated that these are a "large sprawl of lakes and gardens
in west-central Georgia." Located on US 27 in Pine Mountain, Ga, an
hour drive southwest from Atlanta. It's a "14,000-acre resort". It has
a Butterfly center, Horticultural Center and Vegetable Garden where
"PBS VICTORY GARDEN" shows are done.
The article goes on to mention that "Cason J. Callaway, of the Callaway
family, that made its fortune in textiles, caught up thousands of acres
of depleted cotton fields and made them into the garden spot they have
become." It is now an open to the public through a non-profit
foundation opened since 1952.
