The 1800 census, Stokes Co, NC, shows the following:
John Callaway 1 male under 10
1 male 26-45
3 females under 10
1 female 26-45
John Callaway 1 male under 10

I have wondered if that is a duplicate entry. No Callaways were
enumerated in Stokes County in 1790 or 1810.

John Callaway, Stoaks Co, NC to William Callaway; land surveyed
to Abraham Underwood 4 March 1776, by virtue of a warrant dated 20
July 1737. Abraham sold the land to William Pickeral. On 28 May 1785
William Pickeral sold it to James Anderson (now deceased). Anderson
left the land to be sold by his executrix, Anna Anderson......
beginning at a stake in the peach orchard adj. Abraham Underwood,
Joshua Underwood and the tenure of Waitman Booth...John Mastin.
On above date John Callaway appeared before Richard Cooper, one
of the Justices of the Supreme Court, etc.......
Deed Book D the 2nd, p. 43. 29 Nov 1792.
John Callaway from Anne Anderson, James Anderson and Daniel
Anderson, Exec'rs of James Anderson; all that tract of land which
James Anderson the testator purchased of a certain William Pickeral;
mentions a corner division between Abraham and Joshua Underwood....
Waitman Booth...lands of John Mastin. 167 acres.
Hold on! I am looking for the Stokes Co, NC land records of John
Callaway. I recall that he had land on Town Creek, Stokes County. I
have so many files to look in.
