Hi Roger,
I am glad to see you still at work on the Callaways and related
lines. We will be in Austin next June for the CFA summer Board of
Directors meeting. Perhaps you can dine with us during that time so
that we can discuss matters more fully.
Bobbie's sister has been sending her files to me, but the process
is slow. We have mostly concentrated on getting the computer files
transferred, then will start on the paper files. So, I don't know the
"last word" on Mary Baker. I do know that she was a sister of the Rev.
Andrew Baker, who apparently was of some reknown as a minister in
the mountains of NC, and perhaps elsewhere. I suspect the knowledge
concerning Mary Baker as wife of Thomas Callaway came from the late
Eleanor Reeves who lived her entire life in Ashe Co, NC, and who
descended from four Thomas Callaways in succession. I suspect that
Eleanor Reeves information on Mary Baker was "family information,"
the benefit of numerous generations remaining in one place.
I will ask Bobbie's sister if she had a file on the Baker family.
For those who do not know, our associate genealogist, Bobbie L.
Callaway of Monett, MO, passed away two years ago. She maintained
the files on the Joseph Callaway lineage, and she was a direct
descendant of Thomas and Mary Baker Callaway.
Roger, I suggest that you trying posting a query on the Ashe Co,
NC GenWeb page regarding the Bakers and see if you can learn anything
that way. If you make any great discoveries, please pass them along.
Sherrill
