We have found no evidence in records to suggest that there were two
Joseph Callaways in succession.
1st Generation:
1. Joseph Callaway b. d. Essex Co, VA; md. ????
2nd Generation:
2. Joseph Callaway, Jr. b. d. young of a fever (Elijah Callaway's
statement to Draper).
3. John Callaway b. d. (named as a son in Elijah Callaway's
statement to Draper, but no further information).
4. Thomas Callaway b. 12 Oct 1712*; d. Feb 1800, Ashe Co, NC; md.
Mary Baker c1735. [*some have given his birth year as 1700 and
others provide the complete date with the year 1712; the 1712 date
better fits with his first appearance in public records.]
5. William Callaway b. c1714, Essex Co, VA; d. 1777, Bedford Co, VA;
md. (1) Elizabeth Tilley, 8 Jan 1735; (2) Elizabeth Crawley
(Crawford?).
6. Francis Callaway b. c1716, Essex Co, VA; d. c1791, Wilkes Co, GA
(Index to Wilkes Co, GA Will Book 1 - will book is missing); md. (1)
Frances ?; (2) Jane ??
7. Richard Callaway b. 14 June 1717, Essex Co, VA (Richard Callaway
Bible); d. 8 March 1780, Boonesboro, KY; md. (1) Frances Walton (d/o
Robert Walton), July 1745; (2) c1767, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones Hoy (widow
of John Hoy).
8. James Callaway b. d. 1767, Bedford Co, VA (Bedford Co. Will Bk.
1: Inventory); md. Sarah Bramlett(?).
9. Ann Callaway b. d. ; md. James Stodgill (Sturgill). [Note:
more information has become available on Ann since these charts were
made.]
10. Elizabeth Callaway b. d. ; md. "possibly" William Bramlett.
