Hello - GREAT NEWS,
As of Tuesday, May 23, 2006, the Delaware County Archives will
be open to the public! I received the following RSVP invitation for this
date -- I believe the next day May 24 will be the first day when you can
actually do research. This is a very important day, we have all been
waiting for!
[Dear Ms. Imburgia:
Delaware County is pleased to announce that starting on May 23rd, the
Delaware County Archives, which houses the historic records of
Delaware County, will be open to the public on a part-time basis.
Delaware County's archivist, Robert Plowman, Ph.D., will discuss the
wealth of historical material stored at the Archives, including
documents dating back to 1789, the year Delaware Co. was established.
Some of the items stored at the Archives include fascinating wills, death
records, criminal docket books, naturalization papers and marriage
records.
Dr. Plowman will explain the procedures in place that ensure the
records are preserved properly, yet will enable people to view and
copy public records of enduring historic and cultural value.
County Council is excited that these interesting materials detailing
Delaware County's past can be shared with genealogists, historians,
academics and students. (snip)
