Co-owner of Clendening Pharmacy
Nellie "Nell" Bartow Clendening, 89, of Dover, Del., co-owner of
Clendening Pharmacy in Eddystone, died 4 Dec at Westminster Health
Care Center in Dover.
Mrs. Clendening was born in Greensboro, Md., & previously lived
in Harrington, Del., & Folsom section of Ridley Township.
She owned Clendening Pharmacy with her late husband from 1947
to 1972. She was a 1933 graduate of Chester High School.
Mrs. Clendening was member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in
Harrington, Del., a founding member and director of Harrington Senior
Center, and 1961 chairwoman for the American Heart Association for
Harrington and surrounding areas. She was a volunteer at the Delaware
Home & Hospital in Smyrna, Del., the American Cancer Society and
Christian Social Relations chairwoman at St. Stephen's. She also served
on the board at Fair Acres Geriatric Center & other community services
in the Dover area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Clendening;
her parents, Cloyd & Nancy Calloway Bartow; & sisters, Elva Helms and
Virginia Austin.
Survivors: Daughter, Nancy "Betty" Subashi (Andy) of Milmont Park;
four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church,
190 Raughley Hill Road, Harrington, Del.
Visitation: After 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial: Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall.
Contributions: St. Stephen's Episcopal Church
Arrangements: White-Luttrell Funeral Home, Ridley Park.
