I am trying to track down some members of the Councill family from the
early 19th Century. Shadrack Callaway (c1788-c1842) was married to Mary
(Polly) Council, so perhaps the connection lies with his in-laws.
Here's what I know:
My g-g-g-grandparents were Jesse Bartlett and Frances Callaway. He was
born in Knox County, Tenn. in 1791, and she was born in Buncombe County,
N.C. in 1792. They married in 1810 and in about 1825 moved to Illinois.
In 1831 they moved to Texas, where he died in 1838 and she died in 1840.
After a few years of marriage they bought a family bible. It was published
in 1817, and we still have it in the family. It has 60-70 entries for
births, marriages, and deaths, and we know who each of them is with the
exception of these three people, who are listed together under births:
Nancy B. Councill was born November 10th 1802
Jordan T. [?] Councill was born January 10th 1804
Alfred C. Wallis [?] was born October the 4 1805
From some research I've done in Frances Callaway Bartlett's ancestry I've
found that Shadrack, one of Frances Callaway's brothers, was married to
Mary (Polly) Council, but I have not found any information about Jordan or
Nancy. These three people are about the only ones listed in the bible that
we can't place as to residence, and I don't know if they also were in Texas
or were back in, say, Tennessee. I wonder if they are cousins of Frances
to whom she was particularly close. No other cousin or sibling of Frances
is in the bible.
I am very curious who these people were and how they might connect to
Frances Callaway or Jesse Bartlett. I will welcome any thoughts, even
unfounded speculation.
Thanks for your help.
