My Callan's were also from Cavan. We do not know the area in Country Cavan.
My great grandmother was Bridget Callan who came to Australia in 1864 with
her sister Margaret and Catherine. Catherine was married to and the women
were accompanied by Bernard hand. Younger sisters came to australia a few
years later. Bridget Callan's parents were Francis Callan and Bridget Brady
and they were farmers of some kind.
When the family group arrived in Victoria they settled in an Irish farming
community outside of Bendigo. Bridget Callan Married my great grandfather
William Kirby and they had about 8 children. There is no family oral history
suggesting any American relatives- but who knows?!
Thanks Margaret Kirby

Seeking contact with descendants of John Callan (1827-1900?), a baker in
Woonsocket, RI. US and RI records spell his name as Callen. His wife was
Elizabeth and they had 5 children in Woonsocket, James (1863), Roseanna
(1865), John (1870), Mary (1873) and Luke F. (1875). The son, Luke F.,
married a Mary in Woonsocket where they had two children, Gerald (1910) and
Mary Eileen (1913).
This family is related to my Callan line that goes back to the townland of
Coolkill
in Co. Cavan. I have done extensive research on this Callan/Callen
line back to the 1700s but have yet to make contact with anyone from this
Woonsocket family. Thank you, Jim Lynch
