Greetings!
I am looking for more information regarding Laurence (also spelled
Lawrence sometimes) Callan, a farmer from Gray Aires (or Acres) County
Louth, Ireland. Lawrence married Mary O'Hare in County Louth circa the
1840s and came to the United States with children and at least one
grandchild in March of 1882 (during one of the Irish potato famines).
Laurence and Mary had a total of 13 children (one set of twins) and they
were scattered in various places - New York, PA, New Jersey and some
remained in Ireland. One daughter was named Bridget and she married
Bernard Conlon (son of Thomas and Ann Morgan Conlon). Bridget (Callan)
Conlon had several children and remained in Ireland when her parents
Laurence and Mary Callan left Ireland to come to America. Bridget came
to America at a later time with at least two of her daughters, Mary and
Catherine, who did not marry, and they all lived in Altoona, PA.
A grandchild Laurence and Mary brought with them was John Joseph Callan,
my grandfather. John Joseph married Linnie Virginia Shingler in
Altoona, PA -- and they lived there until death, having six children:
Ida (Callan) Baker, Madeline (Callan) O'Toole, William Howard Callan (my
father who married Olive Muriel Good), Virginia (Callan) Pagent,
Margaret (Callan) Cramer, and Bernard Charles Callan.
Does any of this information sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks for your time.
Mary Grace Callan
