Anybody interested in starting a Callan/Callen or other spelling variation, DNA testing
project?
DNA testing is a great new tool for the genealogist to prove their paper lineage or to
break thru brick walls and find new ancestors. The way DNA testing works is to test the
DNA of the Y chromosome which is passed from father to son(s) virtually unchanged for
eons. When two living male donors of the same or similar surname match YDNA, it is proof
positive they descended from a common ancestor. It's that simple. But only living
males of the Callan/Callen and other variations can be tested for Y-DNA. Females can only
be tested for their mother's - grandmother's line, which is no help in Surname
testing. Female researchers can sponsor a male of their line, tho.
I'm Bill Morrow, Co-Administrator of the Morrow DNA testing project, and am very happy
with results from our project. I'm hoping a similar DNA testing project will be
started with the Callan/Callen lines.
My wife descends from Thomas Callen d.1848 Carroll County Arkansas. We think his father
was William Callen, but aren't sure. DNA testing will prove or disprove our
hyphothesis.
There currently are two lines Callen & Callan, who wish to start the project. We need
four more donors to get lower group rates. Here's the company my group uses, go there
and learn more about DNA testing.
