Sorry Karen!!!
BRE is the old county of Breconshire now in Powys, Wales.
GLA is the old county of Glamorganshire now in Gwent, Wales.
They did a redistricting in 1974 or 1976 that gave new boundaries and
names. Pembrokeshire is now in the county of Dyfed.
I just got a hit on my Callen's in Pembrokeshire. SKS searched the PEM
early marriage indexes and found my John CALLEN b. 1783 m. 1807 Scilla
(Prescilla) ABSALOM in St. Issell's!!! I know their first child was born
in 1809, (my 3x's G Grandfather Charles) and so I have ordered up the LDS
St. Issell's films today.
Prescilla's surname ABSALOM was given as a birth name to their third son.
When Charles' brother Absalom died an early death in 1849, he named his
next son after his brother Absalom (who happens to be my GG Grandfather).
The Absalom name has continued to this day - this being the fourth
generation with an Absalom. So this rather confirms things quite nicely.
I'm rather excited to have my feet now firmly grounded in the next few
steps. I had no clue where to turn next as the tendrils in Breconshire
had dead ends. It was only after e-mailing a number of current CALLENs
that I found a large number in Pembrokeshire. Then we discovered from
the 1851 census that Prescilla had given her birthplace as "Pembroke."
Have you had much luck working with your CALLENs in Pembroke?
Here are a few other CALLENs that came up on the early marriage index.
Perhaps you might find someone as well:
=======================
Here are all the indexed Callens in the Narberth Hundred pre-1813.
First of all there was Moses CALE in 1806 who married Mary Thomas at St.
Issells. The minister may have forgotten to finish the surname....as he
is
the only CALE in these records.
CALLEN Charles 1792 married Elizabeth Ormond at Crunwear
" John 1807 " Silla? Absalom at St. Issells
" Roger 1756 " Bridget Edwards at Tenby
" Thomas 1754 " Margaret Jones at Jeffreston
" ?James 1781 " Elizabeth Prout at St. Issells
Then there is CALLO? James, in 1696 he married Ursula Rogers at
Gumfreston.
Elizabeth Callen married Thomas Bottrell at Tenby
Martha Callen married William Ormond in 1810 at St. Issells.
Anne Callen in 1774 married Abraham Beynon at Haverfordwest St. Mary Ann
Callen? in 1769 married George Bevans at H/west St. Martins.

Karen - Do any of these work for you?
Best wishes in your endeavors.

This might be a dumb question, but could you tell me what BRE and
GLA stand
for in your genealogy?
Thanks!
Karen
