My great grandfather was Thomas John Callan, son of John and Anna Callan. He was
definitely part of the Callan family in 1880 at Conemaugh. I have had great difficulty
finding information on the family, but family legend says that John Callan died in the
construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. I have not been able to confirm that as fact, but
the 1880 John Callan's occupation was listed as wire drawer which is very compatible
with working on the Brooklyn Bridge. In fact at the time of Elizabeth's birth John
was listed in a directory near Trenton, New Jersey which indicates a connection to
Roebling.
Thomas John's death certificate shows his mother's maiden name as Callan, and a
cousin recalls that her mother told her that Anna Callan was a Callan before she married.
