Barney was living just a few doors down from Thomas Sr and your Grandfather in the 1870
census and listed as a merchant. The name Thomas and Barney was passed down till my
Grandfather.

Upon looking at your Grandfathers pic, he is the spitting image of my youngest brother
Patrick. do you have a FB account? You can find me as "Melissa Callan Karrh"
have a few pics of the family.
We are also cotton farmers in the past, but mostly of the mechanical type of brains. I am
a Registered Nurse and about to complete my MSN in Psychiatry at UAB (I will be the third
family member to do this in Nursing at UAB!).
Barney Sr. did not fair well and somehow got himself into trouble after the marriage to
Martha Cofer. She moved with her family to Alabama between 1890 and 1900. Her oldest son
Thomas m Ida Johnson and had a set of twins and a son named William. Ida passed away, so
Thomas placed the kids with her family members and left (came back years later with TB and
had left another family of 4 kids in Jasper, Al.)
I had known about the possible Brooks family connection, just can't literately prove
it! But family resemblances are hard to ignore...
