Hi
In response for the requests for input I have information and questions. I
had been planning to share my information but I never got round to it.
It appears that my greatgrandfather was born at Drumgoose in 1848. He was
the son of James and brother of Bernard who took over James land at
Drumgoose when James died. Bernard's land passed to a grandson Luke and on
his death to Luke's father Thomas Callan of Drumlandrick. Thomas had
married Kate, the child of Bernard Callan by his second wife. The land is
still held by the youngest son of Thomas and Kate, another Thomas Callan.
James appears to be the husband of Rose Sheridan the daughter of Philip
Sheridan of Skeriff Tichburn in County Armagh. The thread holding the
family together is Rose Ann Callan who in 1891 with my great grandfather and
in 1901 is at Skeriff. It looks as if Bernard inherited the Drumgoose land
whereas Patrick inherited the Skeriff land. Patrick never in fact lived
there although one daughter was christened at Cullyhanna. He settled in
north east England by 1870 and remained there until his death eventually
selling the land.
My questions are this. Thomas and his cousin told me that Rose Ann the
daughter of Bernard had disappeared after leaving Ireland to nurse in
England. Does anyone have a Rose born in 1876/7 in their family tree?
Secondly my father said that his father was the youngest of a long family
who all emigrated some before he was born. Although this is not strictly
accurate because Bernard was younger most of my father's stories had an
element of truth. James and Rose, according to their age at death were born
about 1808. Given this would point towards a marriage by about 1830 then a
long family was a probability. Is there anyone who believes that they may
be descended from James and Rose who may have family information which would
help take the search further?
I have a number of certificates for the Drumgoose Callans and photos of
James house which I can share. I also have two other
