Donal, I appear to be getting forgetfull about our previous contact. You ask about
Christopher Callan after the 1881 census. To be sure which Christopher Callan you refer to
I feel that the Christopher Callan born c1811 would by then be 70 years old and unlikely
to survive to the next census given the appaling living condition in Manchester and the
colerea epedemic in the area where they lived. His son Christopher born in Ireland 1841
(married to Teresa Maher) was certainly healthy enough to father another Christoher in
1879 baptised at St Aloysius in Ardwick. Beyond that I have no details.
However returning to Christopher Callan (1811) he also had Henry 1831, Patrick 1833, Eliza
1844, William 1850 and Mary Agnes (detail unknown). In adition there was Joseeph in 1848
who married Mary Jane Cottingham and had 9 known children including Christopher born 1890
(married Jane Smythe) who in turn had yet another Chrsistopher (details unknown).
You may be right about Mary Agnes (1835)being the daughter of Henry, I did not even know
the name of Henrys wife.
Perhaps you could enlighten me. Could you confirm that your Patrick was the son of the
1811 Christopher and born about 1833, Do you have any details?
There were several Christopher Callans born either side of the 1811 date most occured in
Skerries.
Hope this is of use,
Chris Bowden (grandson of Helen Anastatia Callan -Nelly Bowden)
