Hi Donal, the Joseph Callan I refer to was married to Mary Jane Cottingham (baptised 1855
RC in Manchester) and married to Joseph (assumed born Manchester 1848-1852) They were
married in Ardwick, Manchester in 1876.
I have mever found a baptism or registration of birth for Joseph on either side of the
Irish Sea although I know his father to have been Christopher Callan, a shoemaker horn
Ireland c1811 (a few possible records match but no proof)
I beleive Christopher Callan was married to Eliza and their children seem to have been
born both sides of the irish sea as they seem to have crossed a few times during the
famine. The first child I have is HENRY boen 1831 and according to an English census was
born in Dublin. Next was Patrick born 1833 also in Ireland. Then we have Rose Ann born
1838 in Manchester followed by Christopher born 1841 in Ireland and married to Teresa
Maher. Next was Eliza born in 1844 in Ireland. Now back to Manchester where we find Joseph
from whom I decend as do several branches of his many descendants. next we have Willima
born Manchester 1850 and finaly Mary Agnes born Ireland.
I am hoping that as more records become available on line I will eventually find exactly
where Christopher Callen senior (1811) came from in Ireland.
Please let me know if you need more info and I would be interested to learn more from
you.
regards A chara
Chris Bowden
