I have obtained more info re my great great grandparents in Co Clare,
Ireland.
Michael Callaghan born c 1804 and Mary Organ born c 1803
were married in the ecclesiastical Parish of Ennistymon which at one
time comprised the old Civil Parishes of Clooney and Kilmanaheen. The
marriage took place on 27 February 1830. The witnesses at the marriage
were Francis and Mary Organ.
Children who were found in baptismal registers were:
Bridget Bapt 18-11-1830 Sponsors: Daniel & Peggy Organ
Patrick 07-01-1832 John & Bridget Callaghan
Anne 10-08-1835 Thomas Quin & Anne O'Callaghan
Mary 21-04-1844 Francis Organ & Catherine
Callaghan
Michael Born 15-11-1845 Baptism not found (my g-g'father)
John Bapt 24-02-1847 Sponsors: Connor & Mary Organ
Margaret 03-12-1849 Michael & Mary Walsh
The above Callaghan children were all born/baptised in what is today
known as the ecclesiastical Parish of Ennistymon. At their
births/baptisms the priest recorded the family's address as
Cahersherkin. Cahersherkin is a townland (a townland being the smallest
rural division of a Parish) of approximately 608 acres situated in the
old Civil Parish of Clooney. The townland of Cahersherkin was sited
just about 3 miles east of the town of Ennistymon.
There would likely have been other members of the Callaghan family whose
baptisms were not found as the Church Registers (Baptismal) for the
Parish of Ennistymon (one of the oldest in County Clare commencing in
the 1820S) were in particularly poor condition with there being no
births/baptisms recorded in 1836 and 1843.
Michael Callaghan (snr) died at Cahersherkin on 11 January, 1870.
Mary (Organ) Callaghan died at Cahersherkin on 2nd February, 1880.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone with common ancestry
and/or from anyone who knows whether there are any records of Monumental
Transcriptions for Cahersherkin/Clooney area.
