It's been awhile since I posted an inquiry but thought it might be a good
idea to put in some information that I didn't have before. I'm hoping that
someone has these Callahans in their tree and can share some information with
me.
Father: Daniel Callahan DOB circa 1820 DOD unknown--born in Ireland
Mother: Margaret Sweeny Callahan DOB 1830 DOD unknown--born in Ireland
Children: Margaret Callahan DOB 1852 in Vermont DOD unknown
Timothy Callahan DOB 1853 in Rutland County Vermont DOD
1890 Salem, MA ( he worked as a Currier probably in one of the shoe factories)
Michael Callahan DOB 1856 Maine DOD unknown
Johanna Callahan DOB 1859 Maine DOD unknown
Annie Josephine Callahan Maguire DOB 1861 Bath, Maine DOD
Dec 1944 Somerville, MA (my great grandmother)
By 1870 the family was living in Woburn, MA. By 1880 Timothy, Margaret, and
Annie were living in Salem, MA. I have no idea what happened to Daniel, and
his wife Margaret or Michael or Johanna after 1870. Timothy I know married
Annie Ormond and spent the rest of his life in Salem MA. Of his children,
his son Timothy became a police officer and one of his other sons became a
priest James--who at one time was a parish priest in Salem but eventually ended
up being transferred to Michigan. His other children were: Joseph, Mary,
Marie and Margaret. I haven't found out anything about them yet.
There are several Margaret Callahans in Salem and I'm not sure which one is
my great great Aunt. I'm not even sure if she married and what her married
name would be.
Annie married my great grandfather PJ Maguire. Their children Margaret
Anna, and Fred were born Salem and the oldest son Charles was born in Woburn.
By the time of my grandparents (Margaret Anna and William J. Delaney--of
Gloucester MA) marriage in 1909 the Maguires were living in Somerville, MA. That
is where my father Charles F. Delaney grew up. Charles Maguire was a
dentist in MA and at the time of his death in 1918 was practicing in Woonsocket,
RI. Fred married and had two daughters Joyce and Dorothy They lived in Quincy
in 1930.
I have no idea where the Callahans entered the USA. They seem to have
travelled from Vermont to Maine to MA. I have not found them on any ships' list,
however Callahan is such a common name as are their first names. Seems
likely that they would have entered through Canada but that is pure supposition.
All I know for sure is that Margaret their oldest was born in VT in 1852 so
they had to be in the States by then.
If anyone has any information on these Callahans please either post it or
contact me through email. Thanks so much,
Margo
