Army Enlistment Ireland & UK Dec 1846 to 1847
The following records were transcribed from photocopies which were of poor quality. As a
consequence, some of the following spellings are open to creative interpretation.
Cornelius O'Callaghan bellow is my GGreat Grandfather and was born in Glountham
(Likely Glountain?) in Mallow Co Cork abt 1823. The only other record is his likely
marriage in Londonderry to Elizabeth Kennedy in Belfast - Antrim in 1856. Witnesses were
James and Margaret Healey (nee Sterling) who were from Belfast and eventually emigrated to
Canada. The Clegyman at the wedding was a William McLaughlin. Any information on these
individial and mymystery ancestors would help break down the wall. Richard Isaac

Note:
Cornelius Callaghan (O'Callaghan) above - enlisted in the 59th Regiment of Foot at
Mallow in 1846. It is likely that others enlisting in Mallow also joined the 59th
Regiment.
