Hello. I'm interested in any CALLAHAN soldiers of the Sequatchie
Valley. I have HENRY CALLAHAN as a soldier in Co K of the 4th
TN Cavalry (USA), and his brother RUFUS was in the 6th TN Mtd.
Inf. (USA) according to the 1890 Veteran's census.
I received Henry's pension files recently - they are actually his
mother's (ANNA CALLAHAN), since Henry died of measles June
18, 1864. Then today I was leafing through Jerry Blevins'
"Sequatchie Valley Soldiers in the Civil War", when I found a
HENRY CALLAHAN listed as serving in the 43rd TN Inf. (CSA).
This was quite a shock, especially since there is no mention in the
pension documents of "my" Henry having fought for the
Confederacy before enlisting in the 4th! But I don't know of any
other Henry Callahans of that age group from Bledsoe Co., so it
must have been the same fellow.
Any clarification would be appreciated.
