Verna,
Is any of the following of interest to you?
1850 Census of Franklin Township, Henry County, Indiana lists him as a child with his
parents James Callahan
59, Penina age 47 and brothers and sisters Benjamin F, Euphremia A., David C., George W.,
Harriet A., William
R., and Mary L. [Someplace in something in 1850 I have a note that showed either the W.
in John's name was
perhaps "Wiley" or somewhere it was used first and John as the middle --
unverified]
1860 Census Harrison County Indiana Family Number 165 James Callahan, age 34 a farmer,
value realestate 900,
personal propety 300 with a Sarah 27, Mary 10, Euphania 4, and Harriet 1. It has Penina
Callahan Family 171 as
age 25 with the same realvestate value and personal property value, living with David 26,
a farmer, George 24 a
carpenters appr, William 18 a farm laborer, John (no middle initial) age 15, and Mary age

MARRIAGE RECORDS: Henry Co., Indiana, [may not belong to this William Callahan] LDS film
983054 William F.
Callahan (m) Dottie F. Hodson July 2, 1889 W Jan 10, 1912 cc15 pg 158.
The following is on William's brother John W.
[He may have gone to Iowa with the family but we are not sure. John W. married Sarah Ann
Barbara Baughn , and
we have reason to believe the family lived in Iowa for a time before going to Republic
County Kansas. We have
not found them on an 1870 Census but John W and Sarah are in Kansas in 1880. Not, however
with the rest of
James Callahan's children.]
We think that John W. Callahan, a brother, may be burried in Chester Nebraska, but no
proof yet.
John W. Callahan is Gary Gooden's g grandfather.

Just in case anyone is interested, we now have 148 subscribers to the
CALLAHAN-L, and another 78 subscribers to the CALLAHAN-D. Hope the new
year finds everyone healthy & happy! I will try to add many more
databases to The Callahan Family Center
http://userweb.interactive.net/~mailman/index.html this year. I did not
get much done last year, as 1999 was without doubt, the worst year of my
life. Time to move on and look foward to the new milleninum!

I am still looking for Jean Callahan about 1760 married to Nancy Bollen. One
statement in a courthouse record in Thibodeaux, LA says Jean Callahan Born
1780 in Virginia son of Jean Callahan and Nancy Bolleen. Sometimes I wonder
about Virginia. I seem to remember my grandfather saying that his family was
originally from Pennsylvania. Please keep an eye out for Jean and Nancy. I
watch all posts for familiar names....

Has anyone linked to the Callahan's that came over on the Hannah in 1764
from Cork ? This would tie into my timeframe of a birth of my ancestor Jean
Callahan in 1780 in Virginia. I see very few records for that era with the
bulk of the immigrants coming in the 1850 -1860's. Thanks to the list....

Does anyone on this list know anything at all about those who
immigrated to Texas from the Canary Islands. My brother in law,Bryan
Callaghan who is related to that famous mayor of San Antonio,Texas, said
that they came from the Canary Islands. I'm not sure but I think he
said that they immigrated a bit before the 1850's. He doesn't know what
part of Ireland they came from before the Canary Islands and when they
immigrated from Ireland to these Islands. According to all what I have
read, most of these with this surname came from County,Cork Ireland. It
would be nice to find out more information about those who settled in
the Canary Islands before immigrating to Texas.
Thank you very much, and Happy New Year!
