Hi!
The name Tobin isn't familiar. I haven't been able to find where in Ireland
Peter Callaghan came from, but I have linked him to a brother, Barney, who
may have come to the US before him. It also appears that they had a younger
sister named Margaret who was listed as blind on the census lists. Also from
the census, it seems their mother was named Catherine, but I have found no
reference to an older man who could have been their father. I have been
assuming that he probably died in Ireland before they came here. Peter was
also living with a woman named Mary in 1850, but in 1858 he married my
gg-grandmother, Ellen McCanna. It was with Ellen that he had his family.
I feel very fortunate that I've been able to find out so much about Peter. I
understand the frustration that comes from hitting the wall. I'd really like
to know where in Ireland he came from, and follow that. I have found that
the McCannas were from Monaghan. There are some clues for me that maybe he
started in Monaghan, too. If any of this sounds familiar to you, maybe
you've run across information on my line, I'd appreciate your letting me
know. I will keep your info, and let you know if I find any references to
Callahans and Tobins.
