My third Great Grandfather was Samuel Callahan. He came from Virginia sometime in the
late 1870’s to Overton County, Tennessee and received a land grant around 1810. He was
deceased by 1841. His wife was Ellen or Ellender Callahan, and he had 2 daughters,
Catharine and Julia Ann. His sons were: Wiley, William P., John, Charles, Nathan, and
Hugh A. (H.A.) William, John, Charles and Nathan died in the Civil War. Ellen was
deceased by early 1890’s.

I think that Joel Callahan married: Sarah ( d abt 1824) and Malinda.
I have three children for Joel: John, Catherine ( md Robert Compton) and
Gersham/Gershon.
The above are from pension applications and probates.
It remains possible that Joseph is another son.
I think that Joel had a brother named John.
There is a book by Anna Deihls Callaham that describes this line; Joel and John being
sons of David; David being a son of Nicholas.
The father of Joseph Callahan ( b 1781 - after 1850) remains unknown.
