Joyce,
My Henry CALLAHAN of North Ireland was a Merchant and per write up he
emigrated to Virginia about 1750 or a little later and came to
Martinsburg,VA from Ireland. Henry had a store at Martinsburg,VA, was
drowned crossing Opequen Creek on return from Richmond (or ?) where he had
been to buy goods. He drowned with his horse, in northeast VA crossing the
creek as it was swollen from heavy rains.
His son Thomas CALLAHAN b 1777 Martinsburg,VA d 1852 IN Bur: Fayetteville,IN
Old Union Cemetery which is one mile south of Fayetteville,IN. He was a
school teacher and m in 1803 Elizabeth "Betty" MARTIN at Martinsburg,VA. Per
the write up they went to PA, where Isaac (1805-1883) was born. Later they
moved to Ohio, thence to Indiana, north of Vincennes, 1916 near where
Busseron now stands. It was then called, sometimes, Shakertown, Betty his
wife, joined the Shakers, This Thomas resented, and returned with Isaac to
Ohio leaving his wife with some of the MARTINS (her people) who had also
come to Indiana from VA; They came to OH abt 1804, thence to IN 1816;
He had two brothers who came West also but I don't know their names as no
one knows where they settled as mail facilities in those days were lacking.

Curtis, my Isaac Callahan was born c1784, either NC or VA. He married
Mahala Wilson. 1st child was Jane/Jenny. Who was your earliest Callahan?
Ours go back to Darby Callahan. These Callahans came from County Cork,
Ireland.

Hi Curtis,
While I do have BOTH Moore and Callahan in my family lines, I doubt I
would be able tohelp you. My Moores, and I have TWO separate branches (not
related to each other), were in Owsley and Breathitt Counties, KY. Ditto
the Callahans. My earliest Moore in Owsley County, was James, born 1755,
or
before, prob. Augusta County VA. The earliest in Breathitt County was
Effarilla/Effa Ella Moore, born c1765 VA. Her only child, Allen Moore, was
my grgr grandfather. James above was my 4th grt. Earliest Callahan
ancestor, in KY, was Edward Callahan, b c1743, prob. Rockingham County NC.
He and wife Susannah/Sukey aka Mahala Brock were my 4th grt grandparents.
They lived in Clay County KY, descendants lived there, as well as
Breathitt,
Owsley and Jackson Counties, KY. Their son, Isaac Callahan, was my 3rd grt
grandfather. Hope you can find those you seek.
Sincerely,
Joyce House-Reeves
