Hi Curtis,
While I do have BOTH Moore and Callahan in my family lines, I doubt I
would be able tohelp you. My Moores, and I have TWO separate branches (not
related to each other), were in Owsley and Breathitt Counties, KY. Ditto
the Callahans. My earliest Moore in Owsley County, was James, born 1755, or
before, prob. Augusta County VA. The earliest in Breathitt County was
Effarilla/Effa Ella Moore, born c1765 VA. Her only child, Allen Moore, was
my grgr grandfather. James above was my 4th grt. Earliest Callahan
ancestor, in KY, was Edward Callahan, b c1743, prob. Rockingham County NC.
He and wife Susannah/Sukey aka Mahala Brock were my 4th grt grandparents.
They lived in Clay County KY, descendants lived there, as well as Breathitt,
Owsley and Jackson Counties, KY. Their son, Isaac Callahan, was my 3rd grt
grandfather. Hope you can find those you seek.
Sincerely,
Joyce House-Reeves

Subject: [CALLAHAN] Pension Record for William MOORE b ca 1826 KY lived in
Lawrence Co., IN in 1846
..
I understand minor children of Union Soldiers Killed in Civil War possibly
received a pension if a relative died in the Civil War and left minor
children behind. If so, the child (via his or her guardian) may have
received a pension. That pension may provide solid evidence of the child’s
date of birth and some information about the widow.
The pension records would be federal records. If a guardian was appointed,
the records would have been created by a local court.
Where would I find these records for my 2nd great grandfather William
MOORE as there were minor children when he died?
I know his name is very common. I do know he was born 1826 KY and died bef
1870.
He married 28 Jun 1846 Lawrence Co.,IN Sarah Elizabeth CALLAHAN who was b
10
Sep 1827 Nicholas Co.,KY d 23 Sep 1907 Indian Creek Twp. Lawrence Co.,IN.
To this union 11 children which were b in Lawrence Co.,IN:
1. Napoleon B. b 1847;
2. Isaac Alexander “Alex” b Apr 1849;
3. Susan A. b May 1850;
4. Noah b 1853;
5. Lydia Jane b 1854;
6. Josephine Clementine b 3 Jun 1854;
7. Sarah Ann b 1859;
8. David Louis;
9. William Franklin “Frank” b 10 Jan 1863;
10. Euphia;
11. William;.
Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.
